Yup. But i don’t think i used wayland before. Dunno why it now would defaults to “wayland”? Using a GTX970 on my second system where it happens. I

So…what all packages do I need to put in IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf to avoid the steaming waste that is 6.0x and wait until a functional version is released? Would sddm, plasma-desktop, plasma-workspace be sufficient?

No, it is a huge mess of inter-related packages. It would be hard to get all of them just right.

Even if you did, since the DE depends on such a diverse group of libraries, your system would probably be totally broken pretty quickly.

You are better off just not updating.

However, what issues are you having with it? It seems like it is going just fine for most people.

I don’t want to have to redo everything just because of an update. Wayland doesn’t work with several games I play, so I HAVE to stay on X11. So if it’s going to reset settings forcing me onto Wayland, break my plasma themes, break my sddm themes, etc., then I just want to avoid having to deal with it entirely until they’ve got it to the point where you can upgrade and still function without basically redoing my desktop from scratch.

For those of you running into issues with Wayland: are you all using EOS on bare metal or in a VM? If on bare metal, are you using an Nvidia GPU? I ask because my EOS VM only works now on Wayland - X11 coredumps on startup like clockwork.

Never mind, a Hyper-V issue…

It doesn’t force you to Wayland. The sessions were changed so the default is Wayland. If you just pick X11 the first time, that is really all you have to do. It stays that way after that.

Are your plasma themes and sddm themes not compatible yet? Have you checked?

That being said, I certainly understand wanting to wait. I just don’t think you can practically hold those packages back for any period of time. You might consider installing arch-audit-gtk and not updating unless there is a security issue that you are worried about.

Does anybody know the new command to disable the compositor on x11? Alt+Shift+F12 still works fine but I can no longer use a command to disable it.

❯ qdbus org.kde.KWin /Compositor org.kde.kwin.Compositing.suspend
Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod
No such method ‘suspend’ in interface ‘org.kde.kwin.Compositing’ at object path ‘/Compositor’ (signature ‘’)
❯ qdbus org.kde.KWin /Compositor suspend
Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod
No such method ‘suspend’ in any interface at object path ‘/Compositor’ (signature ‘’)

seems if you are using autologin it will change session to wayland if it was X11 before… (unset)

You’re welcome

nope.it dont work on plasma 6

A lot of this will have to be changed as Plasma 5 & Plasma 6 use different ways of implimenting the themes. There are already a few themes and widgets that have been ported over (though they need to be installed manually from my experience) and the number was growing pretty quickly before I went to bed. Check them out on pling.com

Hm, yes, I think this is the problem I’m facing. Manually logging out and selecting X11 works for me, but then when I restart it’s back to Wayland.

I’ll use Wayland when screen share works without any user intervention. 'Seems like it should be a baseline capability, yet it’s not working for me, as I’ve seen warnings about for months.

plasma-systemmonitor seems to be working fine

If by fine you mean loading for 3 seconds, instead of 0.3…and between switching tabs instead of seeing content of it see a freaking :gear: rotating for quite a while, sometimes in a dead loop that you will need to restart it…than yeah, it’s perfect

It’s created with their stupid qml and plasmoids tech, just like Plasma itself…absolute crap.
It’s ridiculous.
I’d wish people just compare it side by side to see, but oooopsie doopsie, they’ve removed ksysguard from repos

Did anyone get this?

Edit: Did the changes and the login window is back now  All good.

I’ve setup like that and collapsed the sidebar. No waiting, no rotating thingy :stuck_out_tongue: and its fast enough?!

Just need to look how to get back my beloved ctrl+echap shortcut.

Looks like your nerd fonts are broken in Konsole as well (KDE Plasma 6 and nerd fonts)

No, still krap compared to ksysguard.
