Laptop not resuming from hibernation

I have a recent install of eOS on my laptop(Lenovo Ideapad 3, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U, 12GB RAM) and every time I try to hibernate it shows the login screen, then the screen goes black for a few seconds, then it turns on again, and then the computer turns off after a couple seconds. After turning it on again it just boots normally as if it didn’t hibernate at all. Suspending works fine.

I tried linux, linux-lts and linux-zen but all three show the same behaviour. The swap partition seems to be properly configured, I did a very standard install of eOS, with plasma, sytemd-boot and btrfs partitions. There’s no dual boot, only eOS is installed.

Have you enabled suspend in ‘System Settings’ ?

If you are new to KDE Plasma, I suggest you open ‘System Settings’ and browse through every catagory to see what options are available. The great thing about Plasma is you can configure just about everything. The worst thing about Plasma is you can configure just about everything.

Hi, thanks for reaching out so fast.
That option only makes it so that the system suspends after some time of inactivity. I can already suspend normally as I please, but on the other hand the hibernation function does not work.
From what I gathered on the internet the problem seems to be that it’s not able to resume from the hibernation for some reason

swap partition maybe configured, but is hibernation configured as well?
Did you install with dracut, or mkinitcpio? There was a difficulty for hibernation with dracut IIRC.

Post file contents that show a proper hibernation configuration.
Also, post journal logs from a boot session that you tried hibernation and failed.

I haven’t done any additional steps to configure hibernation, I guessed it would work out of the box as long as the swap partition was being used.

I’m pretty sure I’m using dracut

I tried adding resume=swap_device to the systemd-boot entry as it’s told in the Arch wiki(added my swap partition UUID accordingly) and ran dracut-rebuild but nothing changed.

which logs do you need? dmesg?

This is a bug in the Cassini ISO, it was fixed in Cassini Neo.

To fix it in your install, create a file called /etc/dracut.conf.d/resume.conf with the following contents

add_dracutmodules+=" resume "

Then run sudo dracut-rebuild.

After that reboot. Once you reboot, you should be able to hibernate after that.

What does cat /etc/dracut.conf.d/* show?

Either the conf wasn’t added properly or you didn’t run sudo dracut-rebuild as described above.

I have run sudo dracut-rebuilt multiple times at this point. I just rebuilt it again before posting this reply just to make sure and the problem persists

Ahh…did you install eos-dracut at some point because it looks like you are using systemd-boot but generating your boot images at the wrong location.

But if you are using systemd-boot, it shouldn’t be.

It conflicts with kernel-install-for-dracut. So if you installed it, it would have asked if you wanted to remove kernel-install-for-dracut.

If you answered yes to that, you removed the automation for systemd-boot that properly generates the initrds.

I installed it manually a few hours back exactly because of the hibernation problem. kernel-install-for-dracut was intalled before and the problem was already happening so I thought the eos specific package could fix it but nothing changed. But I’ll go back to that package and redo the process and see if it works
