You should buy Titanfall 2 as it is on sale on steam. It has a gold rating on ProtonDB and the Lutris version works near flawlessly

tbh kinda yeah

MMOs set a lot of bad trends for the space over the years. Aggressive micro transactions got popularized by Nexon and spread to mobile and mainstream

No, Blizzard was much later than Valve, when it comes to game launchers for multiple games. I’m talking about the practice of having a game launcher which the user has to run in the background in order to play games, and which tracks usage statistics.

Oh look…what’s that?

Oh it’s :pirate_flag: ship

youre just referring to steam the actual marketplace then. Launchers are considered different in the space. You have the marketplace then the actual launcher which many games still have even when using steam.

I see what youre talking about now but most people wouldnt be referring to steam as the launcher (not entirely wrong on that though) but the launcher trend for games as many know it not referring to steam started with Korea.

Yes. It’s sad that it had to be like that, but that is how it is. It’s sad that sea-faring rapscallions provide better quality than companies who publish games.

R!

its the only way to subvert the current system atm it seems yeah

I mean if you really like the game and want to support the devs you can still buy it with any launcher / website inside VM

But all that stuff with marketplaces, Denuvo etc…no thx :upside_down_face:

you can also sandbox steam if you dont want to do that. Steam isnt very hard to contain in its own little box on linux

And give money to Valve? I’d rather never play another game than do that. If they publish a game I really like on GOG, I’ll buy it. But on Steam? Never.

True, but when there is a choice it’s best to use something drm-free and simple like GOG :yum:

i dont disagree

I wish more developers supported GoG for games i like / play

Generally i’m the same, but there were some exception to the rule…

For example Hitman 2 (2018) was only Steam when it came out (which is nuts), so i did just that

I really love the game and big fan of devs throughout the years, but that was the only way to support them at all this time :frowning:

If they want me to support them, they should also support me and not give my PC cancer. I don’t think I’m asking for anything unreasonable.

Monster Hunter is a Steam only game afaik, ive got 600hrs + in that game and thats the only option for it

That was on-line only as well, right?

I was so pissed about it for Crytek
I really wanted single-player…

you can play offline, but it is generally made for online considering how absolutely difficult some of the monsters are solo when you have to meet DPS checks for Kulve Taroth and Alatreon but they are doable solo with effort.

When it comes to privacy trends, Valve is far from the first to be invasive, they’re just a titan in the gaming space. What I can commend Valve on, is that on average, they care way more about the customer than any other marketplace/launcher thing.

Game ownership is a whole different story, but people seem okay to trade that for convenience. I dig what GoG is doing, but imo they’re just exploiting a niche to reel in customers.

Personally can’t give up Steam, because a lot of the things I like are multiplayer experiences and are Steam exclusive. My fav game of all time is Team Fortress 2, first to introduce me to Linux too.

About TitanFall 2, it’s an awesome game multiplayer wise until you get a G100 cocking nades at you from the skybox. Heard good things about the singleplayer campaign too! It’s a recommendation from me as well.

btw, although it’s cool and valuable derail of initial thread

@SuppaMan
I’ve forgot to mention that there is whole news thread for games we have! :space_invader:
So for the future you can post it there

I was going to check this out… but I saw this on the side of the game’s page in Steam:

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required

and

Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

Hard pass.
