Most people confuse MMO’s with MMORPG’s, TF2 is an MMOFPS, which is a subcategory of MMO genre. MMO means “Massively Multiplayer Online Game”, and games like TF2, CSGO, Overwatch, etc. are exactly that.
MMOs are games where hundreds or thousands of players play simultaneously, within a single game world.
Games like Planetside (an MMOFPS), where hundreds of players are all in the same gameworld is an MMO (and not an MMORPG - I do know the difference )
TF2, with its maximum capacity per game of 32 players on PC, is not an MMO. Neither are CS:GO or Overwatch. They’re all Team Based Shooters, all of which I’ve played to varying degrees in the past, but none of them are MMOs I’m afraid.
There are other MMO genres, such as MMORTS, or MMO Turn Based Games too. All feature hundreds of players interacting within a single game world.
TES III: Morrowind…
Found out about this little thing called OpenMW which is basically an opensource cross platform engine for Morrowind with a bunch of improvements and added functionality.
Been playing it on my old ThinkPad X230 with some quality of life and graphics mods, and i gotta say they get along pretty well
For someone who is used to Skyrim, Morrowind is a kick in the nuts though!
No quest markers, no compass that shows distant points of interest!
It’s just you and your written journal… I kinda like it this way… forces you to investigate and explore
I am impressed, I didn’t think a x230 would play a game that nice looking. I have a pair of the tablets versions, one I use and the other my kids use, and the kids play Minecraft, but I never thought to try anything like this on it.
Still impressive for a laptop from 2013 with an integrated GPU. I don’t really play games on mine as I have my desktop for that, but the kids try to, so it’s nice to know it can do so to some extent (though I need to swap out their HDD for a SSD because I can feel the difference between mine with a SSD and theirs without, but I used the HDD because it was bigger for their movies and stuff like that.)
It’s more like: you need to find this Argonian dude named Wags-his-Tail in some tavern in some village north of Balmora, and he’ll give you vague directions to the cave, if he likes you.
new expansion has been acquired but I don’t think I am into that part of the game yet
Looks great in 4k but I don’t think they anticipated how tiny the cursor would be in 4k when they made the game. Did 4k even exist back then? I mean technically 4k came out in 1984 but movies didn’t even start using it until 2011 so…
I was going to play Mass Effect 2 but unfoortuatly lack of CD drive and an old email linked to my origin account are preventing this, Might try and see if I can get Jade Empire up and running as I have it on gog
Picked up an original Xbox for cheap… of course I had to have Morrowind on it
This suits me more… playing lazily from the couch with a controller, in front of a bulky CRT
