Love it! Welcome to the EOS, Fox!
Yeah - I still have an old Thinkpad with Metacity/Emerald and Compiz on Ubuntu… I’m not that sure of the way GNOME went - and its impact on Compiz as a result… I did pass through KDE while distro-hopping, maybe I should look at it again…
completely agree with your first two statements - the cube for workspace switch and wobbly windows - those determined my desktop’s ‘character’…
I did turn off fire and raindrops though…
Another update on my KDE desktop. I finally got what I always dreamed of. One of those was switching to KDE and another was having sexy blur!
I am using the Breeze-Dark theme but edited so that blur was enabled. But, there was still the header areas that wasnt blurred, in the start menu it was for example the top and bottom part that was still dark grey.
So, figured out what to edit to have it 100% blurred and also discovered I can decrease the intensity and now everything is just perfect. Right-click menu is also blurred.

Debian sid is always fun… while it lasts! Installed on my primary machine (along other operating systems as a backup, of course); I’ve resolved to only distro hop when there’s some serious breakage.
W.I.P
As we can see here I LOVE vanilla GNOME
This is my ThinkPad X250 desktop, any ThinkPad gang members here?
And this is my little workstation HP Ultra Slim Desktop PC
Openbox Arch, finally transferred settings etc from my Ubuntu Openbox system. Let’s see which one is faster.
Using Jgmenu, very snappy searchable simple (looking) menu!
Anyway, most of the work will be done on the Web, so this is what I’d see most of the day. Background changes everyday. By the way, it is Yandex browser beta.
Now that my low-res/low-contrast symptoms has been cured (i.e. I just upgraded the screen to IPS 1920x1080 99% sRGB) I can be more playful with space and color.
The whole idea of this theming is I wanna try to make my own theme using oomox
and pywal
.
P.S. check out Yonlapa, she made some English songs and they are pretty good
