Metal Talk

I have been playing guitar for many years and my daughter plays guitar as well. It’s in the blood!

Awesome! I wish I had taken the time to learn the guitar.

Absolutely not the only one, Dobbie! My first album was Megadeth Youthanasia. It arrived on CD Just before my family went on a trip to Yellowstone National Park, so I copied it to a tape and my best friend and I listened to it and Nirvana for most of the way there an back.

Another guitar player here since about 15/16 :guitar: :sunglasses: Still have my first amp at my folk’s

Nice! I still remember the first time I heard Justice by 'Tallica. I was still in my hardcore Pink Floyd stage and I didn’t appreciate it. 3 weeks later, it was like heroin. I couldn’t get enough of it.

My eldest, Jakob just made my day. He asked me “have you heard of Moonsorrow?”. I said “My son, Moonsorrow is the air I breath, the water I drink, the blood that flows through my veins. Moonsorrow are all that exist for me”.

No I didn’t say that, I said “Of course my boy, they are literally one of my most favourite bands to walk this earth”.

Moonsorrow are amazing, not a bad album from them.

EDIT: on that note:

Not that big into the doom scene, too many bands are clones of each others. BUT that said, the original doom album - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus - is just one of my all-time favourites and most played albums overall in my youth. A classic that will just not be equalled.

I knew a thread like this was coming, only a matter of time!

I’m a basic :dog2: of a metalhead compared to some of you, but it’s by far my favorite genre and there’s so much good out there.

I started out with power metal: Dragonforce, Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian, Helloween and many more. Probably the song that sold it for me when I first heard it:

Nowdays my taste is varied and what I listen to often depends on the mood – Slipknot, SOAD, Death, Iron Maiden, A Pale Horse Named Death, Black Sabbath… – just to name a few. Kinda feel bad that I can’t think of something lesser known to blow y’all away.

By far my favorite album is Iowa, as well my favorite vocalist is Corey Taylor, Slipknot is my most listened band. Also love what he did with Stone Sour.

I love that Blind Guardian tune. Gotta dig that dramatic, vibrato vocal!

Metal is kinda like Linux in that it is a global, tribal community. No one but mom’s basement dwellers care if one comes in from the softer or the harder end of the spectrum

Myrkur - Ulvinde
My favourite piece of pop black metal. Great tune. It also helps that the chorus goes ‘‘Norway, Norway, Norway…’’ (in danish), haha!

I personally quite like them, some of the best Mel BM around in my humble opinion.
