Gnome 42 Bugs

I’m not so sure if it’s a bug, or still catching up with yet to be implemented technologies in Gnome 42.

Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to run on Wayland anyway.
Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported
Btrfs Assistant 1.3

WHat d you think?

I have to say after spending some time setting up Gnome 42, I am really impressed. Using multiple desktops my productivity has skyrocketed. It has not missed a beat, and I have worked it pretty hard. It is using a fraction of the resources of KDE.

If that is a Btrfs Assistant error message, then perhaps opening a new thread and pinging the user @dalto would help, since he is the one that created/maintains it. My only guess is that that error would depend on if using Xorg or Wayland, but other than that I would no be so sure.

@ricklinux thank you graciously for your continual vigorous testing of Gnome in (checks notes) a VM :joy:

Thanks Scotty, I posted it to him too, but on the chance it is Gnome 42 related, then either way I expect to learn from it.

Is this a bug?

I also notice the gear icon at the DM no longer shows Wayland, and Neofetch reports the WM as Mutter.

Yet About Gnome shows Wayland.

Am I missing some extensions, or maybe I should be a little patient with Gnome…

Isn’t that the gnome software/app center. That won’t work on Arch. Same with Discover on Plasma. There are GUI software managers like pamac that can be used on Arch.

yes

So I need to update Gnome packages in the Manjaro GUI, pamac-aur?

Do you not use pamac on Gnome?

You can use the terminal

sudo pacman -Syu

Or yay if you use AUR packages.

It is possible to install pamac but there are mixed ideas about this on the forum. I don’t know if it is in the arch repo or AUR. Also check the forum because someone was talking recently about pamac bug on gnome 42 (see post linked below).

Here is a good read about graphical installers.

It’ll only show updates for any flatpacks you’ve installed

You mean the gnome app right? But you can’t install or update software in there on arch like Ubuntu etc. Correct?

That was the post about bug and pamac on gnome which seems partly fixed…

If you’ve installed flatpacks from the gnome store they’ll be in the gnome store for updates…

Pamac will pick up arc & AUR updates, I just run yay for those

The idea of EndeavourOS is a bit of an enigma in a certain regard. We don’t use the terminal to install EndeavourOS (thank Calamares for that ease of use GUI installer), but on the other hand we do encourage the terminal be used for updating and maintaining your system. So it’s a good idea to use the terminal when you can, as often as you like, to become more comfortable and proficient with it.

And as for GUI installers as others have stated, Gnome Software Center is really only meant to be used on distros like Fedora and Debian/Ubuntu releases, it uses packagekit which will eventually cause you problems on any Arch based distro, so I’d advised to stop using it Gnome Software Center unless you enjoy breakages.

If you absolutely do need a GUI software app, pamac-aur is a decent alternative since it uses GTK so it blends nicely with the Gnome DE, but it is not perfect, so you may come across a bug or issue from time to time so please do keep that in mind.

After upgrading to Gnome 42, I am having battery saving issues. After suspend all night the battery drops about 30 percent previously there were minimal drops. The computer is new with a new battery.

One more thing while charging before the update my battery was charging to 80% to protect the battery. Now it charges to 100%.

Is there any way to fix this?

Since the update to Gnome 42, I have the problem that when I wake up from standby, I have to turn the bluetooth on and off so that my logitech mx keys responds; however, in the settings it is displayed as connected. my Apple touchpad is always running at the same time.

The only problem I have is the settings window and the window that pops up to save or upload files

It starts full screen, and if I shrink it it keeps growing bigger each time it’s opened until it’s fullscreen again

Only happens on xorg, not wayland

I’m on Wayland and the only issue that I’m getting right now is the Bluetooth one. Always off when starting the system indipendent of previous state.

I’m having this odd issue in Gnome 42: whenever I try to close a window in activity mode, I am logged out of my session. Sometimes back to the login screen and other times to a black screen with an underscore blinking at top left of screen with no keyboard key combinations functioning.

gnome42bug

Has anyone else stumbled upon this one?

I don’t personally have that issue, but I have read other users reporting about that problem, so you are not alone at the moment.
