EndeavourOS is on Mastodon

I would say this is also a social network, just the best one

I dont use social networks myself, too much noise and i really dont care what people are doing 99% of the time enough to want them to share it with me…If i care ill ask

Hm, I never saw that and I use twitter for 10 or so years now. But maybe that’s because I always used 3rd party apps. Never saw ads also.

See, that’s the thing that sucks IMO. So to be sure to see everything I would have to choose a server without any rules. But ducking for ā€œMastodon instance without rulesā€ or ā€œMastodon server no rulesā€ doesn’t bring up anything.

I hate to be pciky, but I just accidentally clicked on the community page, and it still says Mastodon.

https://endeavouros.com/community/

The site says mastodon and the dropdown while hovering the mouse is say fediverse

I am not sure how this works technically to be honest. I doubt anyone is actively filtering messages you receive.
The way I think this works is like below:

  1. you follow X who frequently posts stuff deemed inappropriate on the instance which holds your account
  2. Because you follow X, his posts will show up on the local timeline of your server
  3. Because things show on the local timeline, people/admins on your server take notice of these posts and may block X, or maybe even the whole instance where X holds his account, because this instance is dedicated to the unwanted stuff
  4. You won’t get to see content from X any longer.

This may be annoying, but with the Fediverse you got the option to move on to another instance and see if live is better there, with the likes of Twitter it’s only take it (their rules) or leave it (the platform).
And like I said, if there are no instances out there which cater for your requirements, spin up a €5/pm VM and run your own instance.

Hmm… the @EndeavourOS@mastodon.social account hasn’t made a post since October 2020.

The last post was October 20th this year, not October 2020. The post links to Keeping in touch again, it certainly has been a while so it couldn’t possibly have been posted in 2020, unless @Bryanpwo has a TARDIS.

Ah… my bad. Tis early here & I’m just finishing my first coffee.

Well, I do have one, actually. The truth is that David Tennant isn’t returning as Doctor Who, but it is me looking like David Tennant who is the new Doctor Who… :robot:

OT, but Tennant/You returning as the Doctor, was the best news I got in a long time.

I can picture you saying ā€œWhat!ā€ incessantly when the forum was down in July

Would fosstodon.org be a better server than mastodon.social?

Which desktop application are people here using to access mastodon? I have been trying out Whalebird (in AUR), but I am not happy with that, seems not be able to find anything that I search for, people or topic.
I am not familiar enough with this environment so I am not sure how many applications are available.

Perhaps you could make a Web App for it in (unGoogled) Chromium or a derivative browser.

Also, a quick search:

Like an extension?
I am using Firefox… and mostly just looking for a desktop application

Maybe this is a configuration in firewall

I had seen tootle, was just curious what people here were using if they are using a desktop client.

No.

You could create a shortcut for web page and set it to open in windows for itself. You will get a launcher for in the app grid.

I wish Firefox had this functionality. I would have preferred to use that.

It’s fine… I already have well over 20 tabs open, and mastodon would just get lost in there.
