You’ve installed/tested quite a few distros. Out of curiosity why cinnamon?
Asking as a fellow cinnamon user btw.

Win98 was the last windows I almost liked! XP was needed when my tax software got “upgraded.”
I’m used to/prefer the xapps and I like some of the tray applets. The OOTB experience is quite to my liking. I’m content with most of the defaults. I’m not as sharp as I was a few years ago, so I find Cinnamon less taxing than trying to remember new ways to do the same things on different desktops. Still, it’s not fool-proof - the rolling xapps are often out of sync with the point release xapps. Cinnamon also gives me more GUI options to get things done. I’m comfortable with XFCE (long enough to load Cinnamon!) KDE is a little overwhelming with all the settings…
I could have liked windows if it wasn’t so rude about updates and the lack of privacy (I left before the embedded adverts.) Windows does PnP quite well… Linux sometimes lags there.
Hmm I hadn’t heard of Xapps till your post, so just did a quick google search of what it meant, however I can see the use of the project - I myself used some mint-y themes and icons on my Cinnamon DE and it was quite easy to find and install them via the menu.
Also, completely agree with you about OOTB experience and defaults, I haven’t had to install and tweak much to get the DE to my liking. Which I’m thankful for as it means it wouldn’t be hard to get the desktop back to the way it was, if I had to do a reinstall.
Yup, it was those forced updates and ads that finally drove me to Linux. I would’ve joined years ago, but didn’t feel comfortable trying to game on Linux - Gaming on Linux was much trickier when I first discovered linux several years ago.
That’s quite a harem!

Perhaps. It’s much more stable than any harem I’ve heard of, though! ![]()
In April 2019, when I bought all of my new computers from Zareason (four laptops plus one MediaBox), Antergos was still active. At fhe time I also had two older (but still with good specifications) laptops running Antergos.
As many of you know, Antergos was very tricky to install. I got it installed on the four new laptops but I could not get it to install on the MediaBox.
As a consequence, I installed Manjaro onto the MediaBox where it remains to this day.
When Antergos was discontinued and EndeavourOS was introduced, I installed it onto the four laptops along with two other older laptops. (EOS is much easier to install than was Antergos.)
Therefore I am using EndeavourOS on six computers (two of which are my wife’s) and Manjaro on one.
I (we) have never had any problems with any of these machines and the installations are all over one year old. We update them just about every day and they “just work.”
One of these days, when I get somewhat ambitious, I plan to convert the MediaBox to EndeavourOS just to keep things simple, with everything equivalent. But, as the MediaBox continues to work perfectly with Manjaro, I am not in any rush to convert it to EOS. (After all, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”)
But, without a doubt, I much prefer EOS over Manjaro and one of these days I’m going to have ALL of my computers running EOS.

It takes quite a sheik!

I try most of the Arch based demos and also have a soft spot for Debian Sid.
Not a fan of Windows at all it just makes simple things difficult. Totally agree about cinnamon though, ootb its just nice, I’ve tried kde(too complicated) and budgie (not enough theming) they were both nice but I just find cinnamon so easy to use
Big love

I can’t speak for the budgie in the arch repos, but on an old laptop of mine I’ve got Solus installed - Budgie version and I have to say I absolutely love it. I just watched a video of Tyler tech setting up budgie/solus and followed along to get it to my liking.
Budgie is really nice, fast and user friendly I’d have no issues recommending it but there’s slightly more options in cinnamon.
Fair enough.
For me I’ve managed to get all my DEs to the way I like them. So I haven’t really felt a lack of options. I think it’s just a case of which is easier to customise in terms of accessibility to icons and themes etc from within the DE itself.
So I was originally using both Mint and EndeavourOS but have switched completely over to EOS and it’s my daily driver without another distro installed on my system.
I thought I had already commented on the topic, but I just voted. Well the distributions I use are:
MX Linux 19.2, Linux Mint 19.3, Manjaro Stable, Debian Sid, EOS. They run on computers. OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Linux Mint. They run on virtual machines. In addition to these, I also use macOS, Windows 7, 8, 10. Also, I always test different Linux distributions that interest me.
Yes.
Dual boot EOS with Maboxlinux (Openbox based on Manjaro)
I also use Garuda Linux. Was hoping it would make it on the list. It’s on fire on DistroWatch this past week.
