My first adventures in gaming
![]()
I only play World of Warcraft (since release) and this through lutris nowadays.
I just finished the last of us part 2. I don’t know what’s next to play other than my on going grand theft auto online addiction, but I thought it was pretty decent. Setup nicely for a part 3 to come though.
Nowadays I only game for a couple of weeks every third year or so. I don’t bother with setting Linux up for gaming, I just load a Windows Clonezilla image that I maintain on a computer.
The last game was Red Dead Redemption 2, which was damn great!
The two series I always keep an eye on, is Elder Scrolls and Total War.
I’ve played Total War since the first Shogun game came out and my education was specializing in medieval military history, so those games are friggin’ awesome to me.
Damn! (not my vid)
Oooh I’ve been meaning to play red dead redemption two… Only thing is I know it doesn’t work too good on Linux and I have literally spent all week/weekend setting up Linux on my gaming desktop (MX) and old gaming laptop (Solus). And I refuse to use a windows virtual DE as I want to stick to Linux as much as possible - Hence why it took me hours this week(end) installing games via lutris and wine tricks
P. S Please don’t shoot me guys… I didn’t want bleeding edge EOS on my gaming systems for obvious reasons ![]()
Seems it’s possible, but not very accessible to public yet…Need a little bit waiting there were some patches coming i’ve heard ![]()
That’s fine if you use custom Engines though ![]()
And even doesn’t matter if you use Arch or not, well maybe Kernel / drivers will be little behind which is not good…
Anyway, glad you’ve sorted your problems out and ready to game ![]()
Oh and btw, if you set your wineprefixes right (make it portable) you can use whatever host system later ![]()
P.S. Today in the evening hopefully i’ll release my 1st version of Linux gaming guide!
Not easy write-up especially when working a lot alongside ![]()
Elder scrolls - Skyrim is one of my all time fave games ![]()
Also, I think it’s very interesting how you specialised in medieval military. That must have been fascinating… I’ve always had great respect for war tacticians/military strategists. So was thinking of buying Art of War… It’s one of those books thats been on my radar for a while.
Though I haven’t played total war series other than Shogun, I am thinking of loading shogun onto my newly installed Solus distro
Or Total War Troy: I was reading up about that in Saturday and it looks quite good.
Thanks for heads up… I’ll keep my eye out.
Yeah to be fair I know my kernels are behind, but I didn’t want to be on latest kernel anyway in case it breaks my system. As I know people across various distros have had problems with 5.8 & even though I’ll be backing up my home folders. Game installations are not something I want to be doing unless I really have to… As for drivers. On my desktop/MX I’m on 440 (Nvidia) and 390 (Nvidia) on my laptop/Solus - 440 doesn’t support my graphics card… I don’t mind though as that laptop is for old/retro games anyway.
I know finally!!! In the end I decided to install MX completely on my desktop HDD as the recovery of my windows games on there did not go too well… So thought I’d forget about it completely and start again with Linux.
Looking forward to it!! ![]()
Huh! Just like on Arch here… ![]()
They seem to keep up this days, i never knew that!
Good thinking, especially long-term! ![]()
I thought Arch was on 450??. Also, MX do keep up to date with some things in their repos e.g Drivers. If they didn’t there’s no way I would’ve installed it on my gaming desktop.
Definitely Linux ftw!! Im just praying none of my systems will break as I don’t want to reinstall my games. As even though I have backups of game saves/home folders. It’s just the hassle of reinstalling that I’d rather not go through
Ooops…Forgot to update lately, thx ![]()
Haha you’re welcome
I’m going to try and update all 4x Linux systems once a week at least.
Lately, I have been playing Minetest. The fact that it’s free software and so easily moddable is pretty appealing, even if the whole Minecraft-style game thing is a bit old hat at this stage.
For what it’s worth, I have been trying to get into programming for ages, so the idea of being able to program small mods and see the result on screen in a videogame is pretty appealing.
Hey, that’s great! Looking forward to learning a lot ![]()
Years ago I had not much luck installing this great game on linux. Therefore I decided to continue with dual booting (Windows for gaming - Linux for all other things)
But hopefully I’ll get my favourite games running on linux in the future (with the help of @keybreak).
Will “The Elder Scrolls Online” run fine? I’ll try…
Should be, according to both Protondb and Lutris it’s real ![]()
With Steam will be easier, but Wine is also very possible with few winetricks
Glad to hear that! I’ll directly install with Steam then.
…and if I have “Path of Exile”, “Witcher 3”, “Divinity: Original Sin 2”, “Wolcen” and “TESO” successfully running on my machine I’ll have no more need for dual-booting ![]()
Would immediately splash the cash for the new Flight Simulator… but I would have to install Win10
it’s probably never going to run on Linux. Not that anyone expected it, but still…
As for ARPGs, I’m hooked to Last Epoch. Very solid for a beta.
Yes, that game is on my wish list now ![]()
