Just did a system update and VLC was one of the updates. Now VLC doesn’t work right. During the update there was more than a dozen new dependencies for it. They looked to be codec’s. I can get audio but not video to work. When I play a video a window pops up with errors in it. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem? I tried using (sudo pacman -Rdd vlc) to remove it and then re-install it but the outcome was the same. I tried rebooting the computer after install the same problem persists! Ultimately I just ended up removing VLC. It’s too bad, cause VLC had been my favorite video player. I might try the flatpac version and see if that one works.
This is confusing me. When I first read this Topic, I was on my RPi 5 device on Sway.
I tried streaming a movie from my LAN to VLC and it worked perfectly. Watched a little Quigley down under.
Went to my x86_64 machine with Plasma, and VLC is not working properly. I cannot access my MP3 files, or video files on the LAN.
I copied a .mp4 video file from my LAN server to a local Directory. VLC threw an error
Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "h265" (H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part 10))

Now that I think about it, Archlinux ARM is usually behind Archlinux with updated packages. My guess this will show up in ARM soon.

The same, i did an update with yay, and vlc is reporting missing codecs error..ugh
Just did the update here. . . looks like it’s borked. . . . my video doesn’t play but the sound does. . . interesting. . .

Same here. Had to install some plugins. Probably there’s something messed up with dependencies (?)…
lists some optional plugins, e.g. vlc-plugin-ffmpeg, vlc-plugin-x264 and vlc-plugin-x265
Now VLC works again.
The above allowed me to play both MP3 and MP4 locally.
However, VLC still does not recognize miniDLNA on my LAN. Still cannot stream from my LAN. 
Everyone has a different use case they have to full fill. In my case via miniDLNA I stream Audio, IMage, and Videos to multiple computers in the house. As far as I know, VLC and Rythmbox are the only two players that can do that. So to me, everything else is garbage.

Thanks, vlc-plugin-upnp by itself did the trick. Streaming now up and running.
I thought upnp was so universal that vlc wouldn’t need it’s own version.

In my case, installing vlc-plugin-ffmpeg and vlc-plugins-extra seems to have restored all the functions I want from vlc.
Also stumbled about this issue yesterday. After trying out Fedora 42 two days ago I decided to go back to EOS yesterday.
After installation from latest EOS ISO I was wondering, that VLC was installed already. Last time I installed EOS from that same ISO I had to install VLC by myself. There was an update popping up with lots of VLC plugins and dependencies. After that Arch-Update told me that the package vlc is an orphan package … So I tried removing and reinstalling VLC. In Arch-Update it wasn’t marked as orphan anymore. But VLC didn’t work. Tried to play a video file, but the h264 codec was missing.
Today I wanted to look for an issue here and found that topic. When searching for “vlc” on Arch Linux Package Search, many plugins are found.
There are packages like vlc-plugins-all, vlc-plugins-base and vlc-plugins-extra. Maybe the all-package will work, because base and extra are included? … Have to try out.

Same issue here. After the most recent update, VLC could only play music. Video files would not play at all. Installing vlc-plugins-all did the trick. All is well now.
