So, a newbie to EOS says hello to the community here.
First, big thanks to all the helpfull topics and answers here. Made the switch from Windows a lot easier. But, the journey is not over now. It takes some time to get familiar with Linux and EOS.

Just want to share my (simple) desktop (KDE). Maybe I will change something in the future.

Have a nice weekend

Thanks.
Is there anywhere a good manual to customize a desktop. I know there is a ton, but if anybody knows some outstanding, please let me know.

Having just done a bunch of fiddling with KDE, I honestly found the best way to do it was just to do it. The menus are pretty extensively detailed with explanatory text and you can always go back to ‘Fresh’ by just re-applying one of the existing themes if you go too far.

Simple stuff like colours for everything are very straightforward, all the submenus in the “Edit colour scheme” menu are pretty clearly labelled.

In my opinion, this is completely sufficient

Keep it as simple as possible. Dont use kvantum. Take the clean Plasma theme and modifie it by yourself as @z580c described

These minimalistic setups make me want to try again Plasma.

My relationship with Plasma can be described as love-hate - theoretically it’s nice, but every time I try it out something terrible happens and I need to crawl back to my Xfce cave…

Just need to work out how to take a screenshot of a powered-off monitor…

Me too. I have had a standing new year’s resolution to install Plasma and break the the record from the previous year on how fast it gets ditched again

I have been a GNOME only user since the advent of GNOME 40 but for the past couple of weeks I have revisited Plasma (and its ecosystem of apps and what not) and I have to say that, despite myself, I am quite enjoying it.

Everytime I’ve tinkered with GNOME I find myself bumping up against it in little niggling ways and wanting to use something else. Maybe I just never gave it enough of a chance :man_shrugging:

I think it’s because out of the box it cribs so heavily from Apple’s UIs, a layout and design language which I’ve always deeply disliked.

yep. I always think ‘hey maybe its just me. I’m ready to try it again’ then a lot of “bumping up against” it and back to what I love.

see above: every word plus I would add ‘overkill’ to it all. it’s a beautiful DE.

These are the two Linux KINGS of the DE and I stand before you defeated with shrugged shoulders. I should burn at the purple stake, I understand… :). heretic.

Kde Plasma?
