I think that happens when a users sets a pwd for user and admin that are different, then one needs to use su. Not 100% sure though, it’s been a while using Debian. Apps are just too outdated for me.
I tired Debian recently. sudo is not preinstalled. One needs to su then install sudo.
I never used it but you should checkout Gentoo. You can have a stable and unstable packages side by side. And the control you would have on the system is a step above Arch Linux.

Good to know. I was very excited when I checked out the page. I used to love the DIY ability of my old desktop that I had from 2007 to 2016. I upgraded things all the time. But when I went full laptop I never realized how much I was going to miss that
I have been considering upgrading my setup since it’s a 2012 MacBook Pro. I keep going back and forth with just getting more RAM and a SDD in this old thing or just getting a new one. This may be the answer lol
