Ahh cool, now that is perfect, thanks
I always would recommend the Thinkpad. But Dell is pretty good too.
I’ve got a Dell XPS 9380 and I have only good experiences with it. Nice build, looks handsome, timely firmware updates… It came with Ubuntu 18.04 but has run several Gnu/Linux operative systems since then. Currently rocking Fedora 34 and Archlinux (Gnome, btw ) in a dualboot.
I think this belongs on Garuda anybody?
Edit: Free for the taking.
A good looking wallpaper and icon-theme…
Why a new kernel, when the old one fits your needs…? You dont have the newest in Debian, but maybe this is the reason for it
s stability…? It`s an other philosophy than Arch (I like Arch Linux too, but I wanted to test Debian)
(B.t.w. : you can change the kernel in Debian in a modern one…)
No reason - IF the old one does what you need. If your hardware is more recent, though, you miss too much capability by holding on to the old stuff. In my case (Ryzen 3 AMD) there would be a LOT missing…
I understand…my PC is over 7 years old… (I guess)
Sounds ‘newish’ to me - and should remain so for a wile longer. The window (sorry) for acquiring new PCs has been closing for a while now due to pricing pressures - and insufficient 7nm asnd 5nm fabs for new CPUs and GPUs, coupled with high demand.
it is good that older stuff still can get the job done! My 2011 box is still going strong providing mirrors for EnOS and chaotic-aur, for example…
The main components of my computer (CPU, mainboard and unfortunately also the power supply) are all still from 2011. At least the power supply I want to replace soon, 10 years seems quite long to me).
I think in terms of 12 years - but it is the greatest vulnerability of an older system. Depends a lot on the quality of the original choice. The good brands (and models) have pretty good stability - which translates into longevity too - if only because of the quality of the components used to build it! OK - I’ll be good. I think we’re going off-topic a bit again (not the first time for me! )
So - here’s a little atonement - a couple of conky/conkywx additions to my desktop…
Moving to the purple side.

How are you liking void? Think it’s any good for older systems? I was thinking of trying it out on my 10-yr old laptop that’s my sandbox system (runs eos great).
