I did read that. I also tried Mint LXDE this morning. I’m going to give openSUSE a shot here shortly. I’d really prefer kde to xfce, but I think it’s a macbook thing, but not too many distros even boot up on it. Mx and Debian are the only real two contenders so far.

Someone was asking about Openbox on Endeavour, and I remembered I had Openbox on Ubuntu tweaked like #!, but with some additions in an older laptop that I haven’t looked in for few years. Spent the evening with it, updating all the way from Ubuntu 16.04 to 20.04 LTS latest. I had spent quite a lot of time tweaking it, and was bit worried it’d break upgrading. But, it held. I must find a way to copy it to the newer machine. Here’s some screenies.

Openbox
The top Tint2 panel is usually auto-hidden, brought down for the screeny. The conky is to show the most necessary info.

With Obamenu.

slingshot_menu
A fully categorized searchable menu from the olden days (Ubuntu Natty days). It is the original one. Ubuntu Natty was released in 2012.

I installed yesterday and have solved issues and imagine being here for a while. I am back using XFCE after a while with KDE, it feels like home already.

welcome at the forum! And your XFCE4 setup looks like you bring something with you from the journey to Plasma

I like the layout but xfce has the right feel, but I see what you mean

Plasma, Wayland, nice+snappy. And before you ask; the photo is not NZ, it’s one I took in Sweden.

I never thought I would say this, but I 100% agree on this, it is snappy and smooth.

Hi, attaching mine… (recent Endeavour OS ā€˜settler’, Endeavour stopped me distro-hopping for the past 2 months)…

XFCE, Conky and EWW with a Nord theme. A tribute to Mars’ Perseverance mission/landing.

Hi, no problem sharing the config - forum doesnt allow me to upload zip/conf/lua though - so was planning to upload to Github and then post the URL… Give me till EOD or so…

[The Conky lua script isnt fully finished - for eg. I only have 1 dial per attribute (eg. Disks - could track /, /home, memory could track RAM/Swap etc) - I’ll post the current version first with instructions (install lua5.4 and then conky-cairo), then continue on my updates… Hope that works…]

Being as it all text, you COULD post it in ā€œHide detailsā€ blocks (select the gear at the top right of your edit box), pasting the lua text in one block and conky separately in 3 backtick delimited chunks - such as:

This could be lua
-- lua program here ...
Conky text here
#${execi}

if you find that quicker/easier to deal with. Of course, I tend to be more direct with these things - my alternative is Google drive usually, so as to avoid github!

btw - the maintainer of conky-cairo has an interesting ā€˜library’ or toolkit of lua goodies and widgets for conky, called conkywx (also in the AUR). Some examples of it in action can be found earlier in this thread - including some of the overdone (?!) screens I operate with!
