RPi 4b 8GB RAM 32 bit OS sway works.
RPi 4b 8GB RAM 64 bit OS sway as you say is in a LightDM loop.

SO the 64 thousand dollar question is:
What is different between the 32 Bit OS and the 64 Bit OS.
Kernel versions for one thing
32 Bit = 5.10.63-4-ARCH
64 Bit = 5.11.4-1-ARCH
So 64 bit has a newer kernel.

I sure there are other differences, but my brain is now mush from beating my head on this.
I will try again tomorrow.

I would like to give i3 a go. So should I install 64 bit on uSD or 32 bit on SSD?

Personally I would use 32 bit sway or i3 on USB SSD .

It depend on if want to keep for time ? 32 bit i3 install fast + simple

Thanks for posting the screenshot! Looks very nice to me.

Since WMs are all new to me, never having used one, I might be better off to start with one which doesn’t have so steep of a learning curve. Which one do you think would suit me better, i3?

@pebcak

Good to know! Then i3 it is!

Thank you so much for the support and encouragement!
Most probably I have to postpone the installation to tomorrow. Something else has come up for this evening that I need to attend to. I’ll report back on the progress.

This is one of the nice things about a RPi 4b, it’s a fairly inexpensive way to DE hop on bare metal while your daily driver sits safely on the side lines.

You’re so right!

I am just beginning to realize the almost endless possibilities that such a small piece of hardware can offer. One of the best decision ever to get a gadget. Now I just need a battery of SD cards to experiment away.

I’m so excited about taking my first steps into the wold of WMs. Almost like I felt on my first schoolday ages ago.

What are your thoughts about this card?

kingston-canvas-go-plus-64gb-mikrosdxc-uhs-i-minneskort

Up to 170 MB/s read - 70 MB write

Don’t ever use any product by Kingston (at least RAM / storage related) if you want it to actually work and not die.

That was more categorical of an answer than I expected.

Seriously, i have written it somewehere on forum in details before, but that’s tl;dr…
Really anything other than Kingston
