Playonlinux just keeps reinstalling

Weird problem. PlayonLinux, which I use to run an AI photo cleanup program, just keeps showing up and reinstalling on every system update for the past day.
I went to the AUR page to leave a comment, and of course you have to log on, and once upon a time, I did have a logon and password, and that got lost somehow.
Of course, I tried the lost password prompt, but that did not send me a link to do that over a whole day.
Is there any other way to contact the maintainer?

I just gave on the AUR lost password feature and just set up a new ID using my Gmail account, rather than my main email, and was able to leave a message. We’ll see what happens.

You probably just need to rebuild the package. There was a huge Python update recently, and almost everything uses Python as a dependency or a dependency of a dependency.

So, update again, but this time choose to rebuild it.

When I run paru, it just gives me, ā€˜proceed to review’ (Y/n).

ā€˜Y’ does a normal install, ā€˜n’ just terminates paru.

How do I do that rebuild?

Would this work?

paru --rebuild playonlinux

Just tried that, I did get a different outcome, sort of.

Takes me to the same place, same result.

Try this instead:

paru --rebuild=all playonlinux

It did seem to do a little more processing,
and seemed to complete, but another PARU command after it was all over shows it hasn’t cleared:

Well, it seems that the maintainer needs to update the package.

Maybe you can try to do a force sync with sudo pacman -Syyu. Notice the two ā€œyyā€.
It shouldn’t make a difference, but is possibly worth a shot.

Gave it a shot, same result.

It’s the maintainer’s problem now.

Thanks for the attempted fixes, for now I wait…

Looks like playonlinux might be dead:

The OP was using the AUR, so yes, not in the Official Repo.

PlayOnLinux: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?O=0&K=playonlinux

Also, that is an old thread.

Lutris or bottles?

Not quite dead, last updated two days ago.
But they should have left it alone.

I have had no success getting Topaz DeNoise to work under anything else on Linux other than PlayonLinux, which just works.

Maintainer patched playonlinux , is there anynpastebin which depency fail?

Not sure what you’re asking. The program still works.

It’s weird - their homepage shows links to download version 4.34, yet Arch is showing a much newer version. The AUR page is full of bug reports, most from EOS users: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/playonlinux

Maybe you can try their version 5 dev branch: phoenicis-playonlinux

So that would be ā€˜paru -S phoenicis-playonlinux’ ?

Yes, that will do it. Here’s their Git website, if you’re interested: https://github.com/PhoenicisOrg/phoenicis

Looks like that one has had recent problems too, judging by what’s on the AUR page.

I wish bottles would work, tried a couple of times, the bottles community was no help.
PlayonLinux was popular when there were fewer good Linux applications available.

Now it’s all about games, which seems to be the last area of interest for windows stuff on Linux.
