I have also had this impression for a few years. I currently maintain Manjaro on my girlfriend’s computer.
So true…
We need moar GREEN distros! They must not be allowed to monopolise green.
On a serious note, I quite like Manjaro as a distro, so I am saddened to observe its downfall in slow motion. If you could get rid of all the corporate pretentiousness emanating from the project leaders, and Pamac which is complete rubbish (it’s very easy to uninstall it, fortunately), you’d be left with a really good, solid distro.
But then again, that’s Arch.
Where are the bad guys?
Measures seem to have been taken to mitigate the issues with auto-suggestions for AUR searches in Pamac:
Removing the AUR auto-suggestions should resolve the issue.
I am little surprised that they removed the AUR searches from “All”, that seems to be a pretty big hit to functionality.
Right. That was a surprising decision to remove it altogether from “ALL”.
There is an explanation from philm a bit further down so it seems to be a rather “temporary” solution for now?
Yeah, until they soydev it out of the way to make it 3rd time
Alternatively they could just keep the auto filter searching functionality and rename it PAMAC DDOS.
I’ve installed Manjaro on my Dad’s Raspberry and I’ve messed with it a little myself. My general advice has been, if you use Manjaro, avoid the AUR and just add Flatpak instead. If you really want access to the AUR, then go with Arch or EndeavourOS.
. . .
Avoid the AUR? I’m not a Manjaro fan boy by any means, but avoid the AUR? What makes you suggest that if you don’t mind me asking?
Manjaro (stable) holds packages for 2 weeks or more, so AUR packages that have updated to use new libraries, have newly versioned dependencies, etc may be a bit problematic for users. It doesn’t happen often, really, but it happens.
What he said…
aur you have always manage at it is. and in pacman update we have a rebuild detector. is handy such as python applications such stuf that from aur need a rebuild or other stuf
probably also if vala got updated for pamac
You should always speak your mind, respectfully of course. Pretending everything is okay or it’s just a minor inconvenience will never resolve any issues. It will probably only make things worse in the long run.
This is only true in theory. In practice, probably not. I speak very (!) from experience and not only in the Manjaro forum. The enforced political correctness has already infested far too many brains, so that nowadays you have to think extremely well about what you can still say with impunity.
I get what you’re saying but when everybody implements self censorship things will only get worse. On that note, I can hardly count how many posts of mine on the Manjaro forum have been removed because I “veered” off topic.
You’re absolutely right, but I’ve stopped counting how many times I’ve had to make a new account because mind control has struck again (mind you, not just on the Manjaro forum …). You notice it very quickly when once again a post was “flagged” because some wimp felt stepped on again. I shut my mouth … sorry for that …
I’m a responsible Pamac user. I try not to endlessly search for useless information. I get what i need only. I promise!
I’m also a defender of free speech and love good humour (which is often incompatible with political correctness). As a matter of fact, all languages evolve and this is highly appreciated. What I don’t like, is this indoctrination and enforcement of “newly found” values and “morals”. In my opinion, this has nothing to do with evolution, but is simply destruction of language.I will always continue to express my opinion as clearly as possible and with the appropriate respect, that my opponent deserves. But I express it the way I want and not how other people want me to. Having grown up in the 80s, it’s just the way we learned things and we used to handle discussions and dispute. It worked perfectly back then and it still does today.
Sorry for being a little bit off topic.
I grew up in the sixties in the GDR (German Democratic Republic) and believe me: what is going on now in general puts all this far in the shade! The influence of the people by the media turned to the left is outrageous … OK, before I have to create a new account again: sorry for offtopic, I shut my mouth …
