yes let us wait for the NEXT release ISO, it will makes implementation way more easy, and we can add any Community Edition on the fly, without the need to create a new ISO with it…
We should create a little WIKI on how to create and add Community Editions.
ok, I’ve finally had time to try the current state of the soon (hopefully) openbox community edition.
Something I’ve noticed:
termite is not in repo but AUR, so the script fail if you don’t substitute sudo pacman with yay. That being said is ok to use aur package in community edition? Just asking I don’t know how it works.
Last thing, there is a place where the thing that are missing right now can be listed or we can use this thread for this kind of stuff?
Thanks to everyone.
PS sorry if this are obvious things or already asked one. I hadn’t time to read another time the all thread but I’ll do, at least to understand what’s happening with the software chooses.
I fully agree with you about not using AUR packages. Was thinking more about alacritty but that being said kitty is not bad. @OdiousImp sorry to bother but for development you prefer that i fork and make a pull request or just giving you the code another way?
Back when the package list was prepared, termite was in the repo. Later on this edition was put on the backburner while transitioning existing CE to use packages.
In the existing ones (swap & bspwm), we have dropped out termite. We are not using packages from the AUR.
Ok so I’ll start doing that, lately I’m a regular openbox user (only that installed on my system) so will create a simple ToDo and maybe PR that too in the README so that everyone that want to contribute knows what’s missing/need work.
No real problem. I think (and as far as I can see everyone already involved too) that is better not to use AUR for the CE. People will add later if really needed but I think everything will be done without AUR with no problem
I saw that jgmenu is used in tint2 but not installed by default. I’ve added it to my PR in the list of packages.
That being said the menu is a thing that I haven’t choose yet what to use in my installation too, so i really doesn’t have any preference or suggestion.
Obmenu sounds like a good option for generating the right-click Openbox menu. I’ve yet to try it but will be working on Openbox soon. Atm too many other things going on with refurbs around the home, only have 1 computer running at present just to get things done, the others are packed away to keep the dust out! Does anyone have experience of Obmenu or alternatives? Jgmenu seems very different in usage but I think perhaps the two could co-exist on a system?
@flyingcakes I’ve made a new small PR adding notification for volume state changes through meta keys. If you like it will implement it for start/stop songs and backlight changes too.
Hi,
I have just found Endeavor, and like it very much
I just bumble around hoping that some things make sense, as I only half understand these things
I currently have Manjaro as my main OS and am really enjoying ArchBang, the latter of which has many things I love and is teaching me things as I learn by failure
So, just to say, great idea, and I think Archbang is a great pattern!
