Openbox Edition

Hey guys I think polybar would be nice for the panel. Do you have plans for adding polybar?

No plans for polybar yet. Openbox supports minimizing windows, and tint2 provides an easy way to see icons for minimized windows and bring them back up with your mouse. Polybar does not have this feature to show open windows or minimized ones, so I haven’t considered it.

Copying what’s already said from @flyingcakes i would add that polybar is in AUR and so less suggested to add in a CE (not impossible tho)

Are you sure about it? I’m not using polybar anymore (switched to eww) but IIRC should have this function. I need to check into it

@flyingcakes also on a different note I’ve noticed a slight error in the script I PR last time. I’ll fix as soon as I can. Sorry

As of now polybar is included in EndeavourOS repo too since its used on bspwm edition

Don’t worry. Programming = bugs

We have all the space to make errors before the edition is actually shipped on ISO. :+1:

Oh wow! I didn’t knew that! I’ll look into the windows management stuff then. (Mind me, not that tint2 is bad at all)

Not to judge anyone’s choices, but it seems as anywhere openbox is discussed tint2 is also the main topic of discussion. Personally I have been over the need for such bar/dock functionality. If there was a need though, why not just use lxpanel? It is much easier to configure and with many more features, without tremendous burden in resources. LXDE tools are all made to fit openbox independently, so they are native to openbox, while many of the choices mantioned are general/generic wm applications not specifically crafted to openbox.

I use obmenu-generator with gtk3-perl icons for a r-click menu, feh tile small image for bg, and conky lists of process/ram/cpu ordered. I never had the tendency to make my openbox look like macs-Windblows.

There is an openbox patch for rounded corners, it is in Aur created I think my Dylan Araps (maker of Kiss, neofetch and other nice things, including some good literature for Bash scripting). I’ve used that patch with corners set to 8. This allows little corners around windows in the border of the screen where you can still r-click without moving or resizing a window. Pretty handy if you are using pretty much all the real estate of each desktop-area.

I also use lxpanel in preference to tint2. I use it with Fluxbox rather than Openbox because I prefer that Window Manager, but the idea is basically the same. It works. It seems to me that you can start with a WM as a base and the more you add, the more like a DE it becomes. There are many options!

I do enjoy lxpanel. Now I want to try it out with this CE.
Edit: I tried this and it’s great. I like the tint2 bar too, but I like this a bit more.
