This might sound a bit odd, but I’m starting this topic with the hopes of meeting some new people to conversate with. I live in a small town in Michigan and have discovered that most people don’t even know what Linux is. There’s a handful who have heard of it, maybe even used it back in the day like my dad, and I have one coworker who’s running mint and fedora on a couple laptops. But I’m reaching a point now where I do more on the command line, and know more about the system as a whole, and when I try to talk about stuff it just goes over their heads. I’ve got friends who try to stay engaged, but I seem to have found myself in a place where I can’t talk about the things I’m learning without people’s eyes glazing over. So, for as simple as it might sound, I’m just looking for people to chat with. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to meeting some brilliant new minds. Have a wonderful day!
Welcome to the forum, @LittleBit906

- Just keep in mind that this is primarily a help forum for EndeavourOS/Arch. Not a place that offers any type of chat functionality like Discord, Whatsapp, etc.
I do understand the feeling. A couple of years ago I thought I would do something good and have a installfest at the local library, with a brief presentation, followed by installs of my five selected distros at the time, on different USB sticks. I put up fliers in the library and at local colleges.
I ended up having a lovely 2 hours all by myself.
Hello @LittleBit906
Here you might find some people willing to talk about specific things endeavourOS, Arch or Linux but you would have to create a topic for that purpose. It’s mainly a forum for help.
this is the lounge area! take off your shoes Ricky and stay a little while by the warm cozy fire!
Hey you’re back now? Or have you been hiding in the lounge all this time? ![]()
This lounge area is the place to have some banter, indeed. And some will engage, some won’t.
@LittleBit906 welcome!
I’d have totally gone to something like that! Sounds like you’ve tried a handful of distros, what brought you to this one in particular?
There’s a local computer club. I went and was the only one running Linux. No one else was interested. I only went the once!
@LittleBit906 welcome
That must’ve been disappointing. But, still, kudo’s for trying!
Last summer an acquaintance of mine said they wanted to switch to Linux, to avoid windows 11. Would I help, please?
Sure! Glad to! Let me just prepare and we’ll meet up.
One week later we met up. First thing they did was show me their shiny new W11 laptop.
Me: “So, shall I show you Linux?"
They: "Sure, if you like, but, well, I won’t be using it, so…”

Thanks for the welcome! And that’s alright. Some banter is good, but I won’t take offense to those who don’t wanna say hi. To each their own.
That sounds frustrating as well. Now that I’ve gotten a taste of the Linux world, I am never going back to windows. I still have 10 on my desktop, but that’s only until I figure out vm and can give this distro a try. I’m pretty sure this will be the one for me, but I wanna be smart and try it out first. Are you using EndeavourOS or another Arch based distro?
Noted. I’m not trying to use this like facebook or something like that. Just figured since this was the lounge and I’m pretty sure this is the distro I’m going to replace windows with, it would be a good place to say hi and get my feet wet. I don’t currently need help exactly. I have books I’m reading and I wanna be able to try out some things myself before just asking for advice.
Thank you for the welcome. See I knew there was more people like me out there. Sorry to hear about that experience. I’m glad the online world has a real presence, even if our physical locations are totally out of touch.
Welcome to the forum @LittleBit906

Thank you! So glad to be here ![]()
I applaud you on your control (unless you killed him, of course).
Welcome, LittleBit906! ![]()
You’ve made a good choice. I’m still pretty new to EndeavourOS myself.
Unfortunately, I always have to translate the posts first, which makes chatting a bit tricky.
I tend to read and post more in the Help Forum,
but just make yourself at home here. I’m sure there will be plenty of people here who’d love to chat.
Not quite - but I do feel some Schadenfreude for them using W11…. ![]()
Thanks! Where are you from, if you don’t mind my asking? I’ve dabbled in a few languages over the years. I’ll be honest, I’m not fluent in anything other than English, but I’ve always been a very curious person.
