Good thing I switched to a AMD / ATI video card. You don’t by chance know if everything that works under x11 now will work under Wayland?
For KDE Plasma and its own apps, the only issue I have is that the font viewer doesn’t show fonts, but that should be fixed in Plasma 6.
However, there are some non KDE apps that still have issues with Wayland.
X11 will still be available in Plasma 6.
Where is this setting located?
The same place as last time (scroll up from that post for the image)
I never use this so don’t know what I’m looking for most times. I just don’t change fonts and stuff as i have no need to.
I’ve been running Wayland for a little over 2 weeks now and find no reason to go back to X11. It’s not a huge win now, but since it’s becoming standard with Plasma 6 anyway, it’s not wrong to give it a try. The opponents of Wayland (Plasma) are certainly just as right as the proponents.
Now spectacle has recording on Wayland which is great because simple screen recorder only supports X11.
Ill give it a try in the next few days. As you can see on my screenshots above i dont have a background nor a user panel. The only thing i can do is starting everthing from krunner. As @r0ckhopper suggested i am thinking about going to ask a question on KDEDiscuss.
The other thing is i am going to buy another another 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe as my home partition. It will be more reasonable to wait and reinstall everything again. Complete PLASMA 6 with wayland support. This is done in a few hours. Dotfiles and some other things are stored on an external drive. So this will be no masterpiece.
Chiming in as a visually impaired user, - gamma under nvidia is still broken under Wayland, which makes contrast an issue, but otherwise, it’s gradually improving using an RTX3070. I’ll need to remain on X for a while longer though… your money might vary.
Good point - there will still be a need for X11 for quite some time.
EXACTLY that. Til Wayland can do everything x11 can do and support everything x11 supports x11 should stay the Plasma default.
you all realize that you still use 5.27 and make demands that upstream should keep the 6.0 defaults the same based on your 5.27 experience while 6.0 won’t have much to do with 5.27 at all?
Qt6 has some major changes that basically make ANY experience still based on Qt5.15 irrelevant. Plasma 6 won’t even be based on Qt 6.0 but on Qt 6.5 or later which changes a lot more …
My experience probably won’t change much as i haven’t had any issues really to speak of. KDE Plasma works extremely well on my hardware.
My only blocker for WAyland on Plasma 5.27 is Steam. I have several steam games that DO NOT play well with Wayland, but work just fine on X. So that getting fixed will be my determiner, otherwise I could actually make the change to Wayland today with only minor updates to my workflow (replacing ksnip with spectacle, mostly).
The underlying engine will change while most of what you see and use will not meaning besides what’s mentioned in the post above this one of many this that probably still won’t work or work properly under Wayland.
i have now changed my entire appearance to Breeze and i can already switch to wayland.

i had used a lot of plasmoids. some of them or one is probably not ready to work with wayland. which one is it i still have to find out.
I just run standard Kde Plasma install on EOS and i have no issues. I just started using Wayland to test it out again this month. So far is working without any issues.
It looks like very comfortable here with Breeze Appearance. It is now the Standard KDE Plasma Theme without any Plasmoids/Extensions.
Maybe its klassy windows decoration or maybe Lightly or anything else who gives me the bug as you can see in the screenshots above.
But for now it works flawlessy.
I am going to try out one to another Plasmoid/Extension so i can find out which one makes the problem
If anything is buggy i will report here.
I’m sure if you install one at a a time and log out and back in and or reboot you will find the culprit or culprits. I do this also when i change settings just to check.
This is the only thing which will work.
I will find out for sure. Just need to activate it and as you say logout and back in or reboot will makes the problem more clear.
I am for now glad that i could switch to wayland with my current user account.
