Install EnOS on Alienware area 51

@jonathon will do, just wanted to clarify mainly about the drives.

Also the other drives after you get it installed can be wiped and formatted to ext4 with gparted or another tool as i assume they are currently NTFS for Windows.

I have EnOS on a usb already probably from Oct, is it fine to use that one or should I download another copy and dd it again?

I would use the latest one.

There is no option for Secure boot, so I can’t make sure it’s disabled. Do I just go ahead and try and install it?

Ignore me. Found it. lol just panicked. There is some reasoning to it. In the past my mate (3rd line engineer) couldn’t change the boot order. Anyways forget that.

will do @ricklinux

Post your hardware specs first. Put three ~~~ before and after your post. Make sure you do it in fiull screen in the terminal so all the info is there.

I so badly hope this works!

There’s some screen tear but I’m assuming that’ll be sorted with Cinnamon.

I’m going to try and go ahead with the install.

I’m ready to click the install button, I see you writing i’m just waiting for your reply

Okay… If you are installing Cinnamon that’s great because I like it also. It has good support for HiDpi also if you are outputting to other monitor or screens. If everything goes okay and you have it installed change one setting in effects. Turn off window effects. This is only because the welcome screen gets some issue with it when the mouse cursor hovers over any of the boxes on it.

yep that’s why im going for Cinnamon

I think you’ve mentioned that in the past to me. Cheers Rick

Actually you may not have that problem because you have Nvidia. So forget doing that. This only happens on AMDGPU as far as i know.

cool. Here goes nothing.

aaaaaaarrrrrr and wife calls me to get my dinner. lol have to eat by my computer.

lol cant enjoy food at a time like this

I wouldn’t stress about it!

Edit: I see your processor is right up there close to mine. It’s 8 core 16 thread. I have the intel i7-8086K which is only 6 core 12 thread but it is pretty good.

hahaha, when I learn more I’ll appreciate it more.

So you are doing the online install of Cinnamon and you selected Nvidia and printing support?

yep, its just rebooted.

just give me 5 and ill have finished my supp

wow, that’s some hardware :upside_down_face:

yaaaaaaaaa hoooooo haaaaaaaaa woooooooopppppioiiiiiiiii.

I’m so happy to be writing this and hearing the noise from my keyboard.

It went smoothly. just gotta look back now at what @ricklinux said about the gpu

So am I correct in think that I can/should install nvidia-dkms 455.45.01-1 ?

I’m going to install the lts kernel first because I think it’s best I stay on the lts, heard it was more stable.

and after installing the gpu driver do I need to do anything?

Can you install inxi first and lets see the graphics.

inxi -G

Okay lets do a little set up first on cinnamon. Right click on the bottom task bar and click on panel settings. set panel height to around 32 and symbolic icon size to 26. Not sure what monitor you have so this may or not be too small? I only have 22" Monitor.

Edit: Then go to themes in the start menu and set desktop to ArcDark, Controls to ArkDark, Icons to Arc XD, and Window Borders to Arc Darker.
