Install EnOS on Alienware area 51

done

yep, better on my eyes

How does it look?

much better

I’m not used to it on my big monitor. Im not too sure how it should look. The writing is pretty small

Okay now to install nvidia-dkms. I’m not sure whether the nvidia-installer-dkms is installed. So first try

nvidia-installer-check

hold up look at this

Looks bad

When booting I did see a message i haven’t seen before something to do with bios but it was waaaaay too fast to read.

Maybe I messed up some setting without realising it when I was searching to disable secure boot

I wouldn’t worry too much yet. These are ACPI errors or messages which may or may not affect anything.

ECC is disabled. That’s memory. I doubt whether this has ECC memory (Error Control Correction) Have to look at the specs . The other messages are to do with ACPI which may be corrected with a UEFI update possibly or some kernel parameters.

What did this show?

nvidia-installer-check

[muj@Blackstone ~]$ nvidia-installer-check
Your graphics card (id: 1e07) is supported by the nvidia-dkms driver.
To install a driver for this card, you can use nvidia-installer-dkms.

I’m going to install the lts kernel and headers and then nvidia-installer-dkms`

I definitely disabled secure boot. I rebooted and went back to bios to double check

Okay. Are you sure you disabled secure boot?
Edit: I’m fairly certain you did as it probably wouldn’t have installed.

You can run
sudo nvidia-installer-dkms

Then you’ll have to reboot when it’s done.

okay just give me a min to do the kernel.

i’m bit worried about the bios warnings tho

The bios warning is the same message repeated. So far it’s not a problem.

Okay, lol don’t want the house to burn down as soon as it’s built.

Rebooting

The message at start up says:

Intel Rapid storage Technology - option ROM - 15.7.0.3054
Copyright © intel corporation

Raid volumes:
None defined.

Physical Devices:
ID Device Model
0 Samsung ssd 860
1 Toshiba

Press ctrl Enter to enter configuration utility.

It doesn’t mention the 970 ssd

also after rebooting and selecting the lts kernel theres a message:

Your system is currently running without video hardware acceleration. Everythings massive now.

When I installed I made sure to select the 970 ssd to do the installation on

The message at boot just starting happening when I exited bios after making sure secure boot was disabled. When I left the bios before installing enos it wouldn’t boot back into windows and tried to do some sort of automatic diagnostics. I just left it and installed EnOS

Okay first off IRST is for Raid. I don’t think it was set up for raid. So i would ignore that message. At least for now. That’s just a message on boot? Does it not go by it without intervention? Also did you install the lts kernel before installing nvidia-installer-dkms? You need lts headers so if you are currently booted into the lts kernel check if the headers are installed?

sudo pacman -S linux-lts-headers

Okay you didn’t tell me you installed it alongside with Windows or you erased the drive and installed it?

Okay well you know I don’t know where my elbow is let alone my armpit right?

haha I’ve installed lts kernel and headers and done grub-mkconfig.

I haven’t installed the dkms nvidia driver.

im going to do that now.

p.s the message at boot goes past very quickly i had to record it to see what it says. it goes before i press anything. just so used to doing a reboot after kernels… waiting for the download now

rebooting

graphics are back.

does this look right to you

Just to point out that this is rapidly becoming a “personal help thread” - that is, 50-odd posts of one-to-one live support.

Yes it looks okay. You have Microsoft data on the /dev/sda drive. /dev/sdc is the usb install media and the other hard drive is /dev/sdb. Obviously they have partitions.

So it boot’s okay now. Can you boot into the current kernel as well as the lts kernel?

Apologies if I’ve done anything not in line with forum rules. please let me know if that is the case and what exactly I should change.

Sorry Jonathon that’s my doing! I’m just trying to help. :worried:
