Well, it’s not a “review” or a fresh take on EOS. It’s coming at it like a migrant from Windows. So much of what he says is in that regard. Not a bad video, just that it’s less about EndeavourOS/Arch and more about converting from Windows.

Not related to the content but I found his representation, specifically his slow and calm speech quite pleasing.

A lot of content creators talk as if they were in a number-of-word-per-minute competition with an Spanish football commentator.

Please don’t get me wrong. I like Spanish football and do watch (and listen to) football in Spanish sometimes and I love it :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Well it’s a start! Getting rid of Windows for this amazing distro! :enos: :enos_flag: :purple_heart:

I watched that video. It’s part of a series where he looked at various distros with a specific goal for people migrating from MS-Windows. His hard rule of no text-based software installers was a deal-breaker for EnOS. But I agree with his suggestion that the EnOS devs include an installer option for the user to select an optional GUI package manager (none being the default) based on the desktop selected (Octopi, Discover for KDE/Plasma, Gnome Software for Gnome, etc.)
A lot of distros are moving to FlatPak as a software alternative.

His loss then.

EOS is a terminal-centric, close-as-possible to vanilla Arch. Why on earth would they add an option for a GUI package installer???

To make it easier for windoze refugees. Or we can do nothing and let Zorin have them all. No skin off my nose, It was merely a suggestion.

I personally don’t think any Arch-based distro should be the first choice of Windows refugees; Linux Mint has already been that for many years. If all the former Win10 users migrate to Zorin, then that’s a win for Linux in the long run.

The use of these GUI package managers are discouraged not because EOS wants to live up to some slogan but because the way they handle installation and updating packages in Arch (-based) systems using packagekit.

You won’t be doing any good to new users by including these. Just the opposite. As they will sooner than later end up with a broken system.

Didn’t know there was any competition going on here

Any exposure of this kind, I believe is good! Maybe most users will pass on EndeavourOS, but firstly some will choose it, secondly all will hear about it but most importantly all will eventually choose a Linux distro..

In 2017 after a life with the dark outfits of WIN and MAC I didn’t have no Morpheus to break me out of my matrix…had to do it myself.

I researched the BIG3: fedora, arch, debian and said no thanks. I realized Linux was a fluid growing thing.

So I went with an Independent I still use today (hint: Irish origin).

And I learned from there.

I wish there were more videos of people like me I might watch Linux videos again..

In 2017 when I freed myself I woulda never chose Arch/Arch derivative, I had no skill.

All the posters in this thread who said “just get into Linux then find your perfect fit later” I am in complete alignment with.

dig it

I enjoyed the video and how they actually went over the install and gave a few reasons as to why they feel the way they do about it. But I feel they kinda didn’t really go into why people should use or not use EOS. I understand that some people might not want to use the terminal but I feel most people coming to Linux understand they might have to a little.

I would recommend other distros first but if they do that and decide that they wanna learn more or stick with it. Or even have a more hands on experience then I would all day say EOS.

I have said this before and I will say this again.

EOS is freaking awesome. I love it. :purple_heart: My daily driver.

But it is not for windows refugees. Especially those who know very little of Linux. It is still a terminal based linux, unfortunately. :sob:

For Mac and Windows refugees, with little or zero Linux exposure, Linux Mint, MX Linux and possibly ZorinOS is the way to go, initially or for a year. After a year or so then they can have a look at EOS. I can guarantee that they will never ever leave EOS.

The majority of them are not cut out for a lightweight, terminal-centric rolling release distro like EOS, simply because they don’t know jack about how a Linux-distro works. They’re better off with a full-fledged “Beginner-distro” like Mint, which provides GUIs for almost everything.

And I disagree. One of the big selling points of Endeavour to me was the fact they were not using Pamac as a package manger. I never liked it. I always liked the simplicity of the command line.

Good for them, I hope we NEVER do this.

Let Zorin have them. I’m not in the Baby sitting business.
