i don’t bother here in house there is no windows 10
there is already one pc with manjaro thats other thing further 2 EndevOs
I’ll run it on my new machine dual boot with EndeavorOS if nothing else to be able to support my wife and my parents when they upgrade.
And i thought all of those old unusable 7th gen Intel chips weren’t any good anymore. At least we can save raspberry pi.
This is
This is such a first world centric statement it causes physical pain.
My cleaner’s children are making good use of an i2500K based system I donated to them.
That’s not bad CPU at all, i still have some machines running 1st batch of Core2Duo perfectly fine with blur / bells and whistles of KDE
It isn’t first world centric, it is a global reality that the majority of machines that are that old will mostly be destroyed by 2025. Whether they should be or if it is a good or bad thing is a separate issue.
This is partly due to the fact that far more people are using laptops than they did 15 years ago. They take more abuse and are harder to repair than desktops.
In my country, we don’t upgrade computers that often. Because of the high price of good brand new computer parts. Even mine which is an i5 6500 is considered old now. I’d to take a personal loan in order for me to update my computer to the current state I have it in.
So you guys in US or any other 1st world type countries would be able to upgrade in 5 years but people like us who live day to day are unable to do so.
I beg to differ my friend. It’s not applicable globally. Because I live in a country that will make the statement you made no sense .
My XSX and PS5 are basically advertising appliances locked down to one digital store. The main menu automates targeted ads in your face.
Not surprised Windows going down that path.
I’ll give respect to Apple for at least not ad spamming within OS and based on Unix core. MacOS is more stable compared to Windows.
There maybe places on the globe that use PCs for a longer period of time but if you take the total number of machines in the world that were made pre-2018, they will mostly be destroyed by late 2025.
Also, no matter how long you want to keep a laptop, modern laptops simply aren’t built to last that long. Can they last that long? Sure, if they are well-cared for but lots of laptops are not.
I don’t know your country but one day I hope you come down to an Asian country or even mine. You’ll be surprised how long we make things last especially computers. Even used once from 1st world countries. .
Are you saying that all hardware in your company is that old? Can you elaborate on this a little bit more?
Windows 11 supported CPUs:
AMD:
Intel:
On top of that Windows 11 needs DirectX12 which came out in 2015.
I live in Thailand and this is completely false. The minimum wage here is 10 USD a day. They are not replacing desktops with laptops, they are using whatever they can scavenge 2nd or 3rd+ hand.
You guys are interpreting my comments differently than I am intending.
I am not saying that in your countries, people don’t retain and use older PCs. I am saying that if take the global number of PCs produced prior to 2018, they will mostly be destroyed by October 2025.
Have you seen the population of India recently?
I think that’s what I just said.
What else do you want me to say. There are people who are capable of upgrading their computers but most almost 99% of the population is running on old hardware. Also new flash most even doesn’t use paid Windows.
Anyway, I’m not going to continue this. It pointless to explain how people go about their lives on the side of our world to people who haven’t seen or experienced it.
What was the situation in your area when Microsoft abandoned support for 32 Bit computers? I would assume that this was a similar situation.
At some point in time any software vendor has to decide to cut the ties to old hardware. Even Linux stopped 32 bit support.
If you look at the CPU list Windows 11 is supporting it is not too bad. It will support pretty old CPUs (e.g. AMD Athlon, Intel Celeron). I would assume that a big majority of computers even in development countries, 3rd world or however you call it, have one of these CPUs.
I would assume the main issue is the GPU requirement: DirectX12. This only came out in 2015. Affordable GPU adapters with DirectX12 may have started a few years later.
I do not understand why you are offended. I was not asking anything about your personal live. I was asking a question about the company you are working for, because you mentioned that all(!) PCs in your company will be incompatible with Windows11.
I’m offended who said I was. I said I’m not going to explain to people because most of you don’t.
Yes, and this will conclude my comments on this.
Windows 11 won’t even support an AMD Ryzen 1700x currently.
As I said I donated an i2500K to my cleaner partly because of Windows 7 EOL so it would have effected her as the machine they had before was 32 bit.
The length of time between 64 bit CPUs being introduced and them being mandatory was 17 years, which is a lot longer than it will be between the release of the latest hardware that Windows 11 supports and when Windows 10 is EOL, so I’m guessing the effects will be a lot worse as it’s only 7 years or so.
