Very interesting, some will like the few tweaks it provides.
It’s been in the repos for a month or so, at least. I installed it last week, just to try it out…not bad, though I don’t really benefit from what it may offer. So many of the features that might make it interesting are Mac-OS only
Though looking at the video comments did make me install ‘nushell’ and try it out… I think I might crushing…
I use Alacritty as my primary terminal emulator and didn’t feel any noticeable improvement when scrolling long text in Ghostty.
As for the splitting feature, I already use a tiling WM (i3), so mod + v + enter
gets me a new terminal emulator pane.
I haven’t looked into configuring Ghostty, so there’s certainly features I’m missing out. But as far as the video goes, the thumbnail view (which I don’t see myself utilizing) is the only feature I don’t already have.
Nushell is very neat if you’re regularly working with data in the terminal.
Nushell is very neat if you’re regularly working with data in the terminalWell, I am terminal centric, after all :) I can do things so much faster in the terminal than a GUI.
Tried it, wasn’t impressed overly.
No way of changing its appearance in the GUI, it uses Gnome CSDs, and otherwise, meh?
Konsole works perfectly fine, and isn’t worth switching away from for me.
Been running for a week or so, it’s not bad, bit rough around the edges:
Plus points:
- Fast
- Drops with a pretty OK set of defaults
- Lots of themes
- Easy Config, clear web site
Minus points:
- Fugly tabs
- Compared to kitty, still a bit basic.
Wrote a little script to change the background colour when I ssh to my htpc:
So kittenish
No Qt support. It looks horrible in KDE, giant cursor and Adwaita garbage.
Replace my term with ghostty on both linux and os/x. Fonts are a lot crisper.
its made with zig and under development since zig is also pretty new it just dropped back in 2017
Alrighty then. 8 years ago.
dogfooding dev, neat
I do too.
HATE: no scrolling per se just harsh top and bottom (pg up etc).
NEUTRAL: no tabs. just ctrl+N for new window. no problem
LOVE: very light feel, solid, clean, simple
I’m sticking with Alacritty. I made my own config file but all it is is opacity plus font size plus open size when open. Like to experiment with fonts another day.
I know this is a thread is about Ghostty, sorry.
Alacritty? I can scroll in alacritty using the scroll input (2 finger vertical swipe).
Thats indeed a missing feature, but in the spirit of keeping alacritty simple, I’ll let it be. I use i3wm, so being in tabbed mode, I just need to press mod+enter
to launch a new alacritty instance as a tab.
Your screenshots show that there are different fonts involved.
Thanks. Are the font sizes the same? Doesn’t look like?
Thanks again. Almost perfect now. If you choose the same colors for both then the question is if there is any difference to notice.
Hyprland changes the color based on focus
