Getting Hyprland

Now that I dumped nvidia card for AMD i thought I give this a try. Not really use to Wayland but this script and setup a pretty nice default config to modify and tweak. So far pretty happy with it. Found wdisplays from the list https://arewewaylandyet.com/ to fix up monitor layout.

gud gawd I have been customizing and monkeying with this all day. I love it. May have to clear up my .config and push new dotfiles when I am done

Iā€™m interested in seeing what youā€™ve done with the waybar.

Hi guys has been a while have been pretty busy yes with hyprland busy with waybar theming now its almost fully in sync with the EndeavourOS colorscheme and yeah its not going to be long now iā€™m working my ass of to make the hyprland community edition fully ready as soon as possible in have my holiday now and working almost day and night on it.

As someone who originally asked for Hyprland community edition I believe this was a mistake.

As someone who has used Hyprland for over 8 months I believe itā€™s really only for experienced linux users.

With Hyprland and Waybar you will need to play around with its configuration

Thatā€™s great news! I really enjoy using my own Hyprland setup here in EOS, but look forward to seeing a community spin available, so more people can try it out.

I applaud all your hard work and effort in developing Hyprland for our community. The screenshots look amazing!

Yeah true but that makes it fun, and by the way Arco and Garuda linux both have a hyprland edition but i believe they both use older packages from the aur and Arco has its own edition its also older i myself use the git version and i must say i dont have many problems with hyprland i have it running more then 8 months now and yeah the xdg-desktop-hyrpland package had some issues but hyprland is running on the bleeding edge of wlroots and not all packages work very well with hyprland but i always have a fallback and that is bspwm what is running fine. but i must say i prefer hyprland now. but indeed its true hyprland is not for the noob you need to have some linux experience to keep it running smooth.

Thanks , i was holding back for a while on the project due to my work but also because i myself had a few issues not really Hyprland related but more the xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland that had some issues and caused some problems a few months back. And many of you already run Hyprland most of them use the j kool it version as a base i believe i do not mine is build from scratch thats more fun.

I used herbstluftwm, bspwm and spectrwm for ages on X11, but when I made the switch to Wayland and Hyprland, it was game over. I just canā€™t get enthused about the old tilers under Xorg.

For, me making the switch has been relatively easy. Iā€™m actually quite surprised how well the transition has been. I just keep tracking the changes, and follow the documentation, and so far itā€™s been great.

I agreeā€¦making your own, custom Hyprland setup is a lot of fun. A constant work in progressā€¦Iā€™m forever tweaking mine, in trying to find the perfect look and workflow that suits my needs.

Me to spend a lot of time tweaking waybar, and yeah some rule and keybind changes and did try waybar with persistent_workspaces but that is just not the same as in bspwm. but me also i have bspwm as a solid backup but almost never login to it again.

This is also true with Sway, i3 , etc.

Users who want to use a WM will always have to tinker with config files. I donā€™t see why this is a bad idea. The EOS Sway community edititon was the reason I started using Sway in the first place.

Looks very nice. Just a couple of questions? I see in the waybar the first set of icons for mail and i assume a browser etc. Are they specific to certain email client or browser? I use Firefox and Thunderbird.

yeah it uses brave ! but i think it will work with firefox to still have to test that .

Looking forward to checking out the configs!

the updated versions have not been pushed to github yet.

Can Nvidia GPU users install this?? I am having Nvidia. I heard Sway doesnt go well with nvidia. Kudos to the hardwork you put thru. Really excited for the release

There are some tweaks you need to do for Wayland. You can see that in Hyperland-v2.1 script I posted earlier this last weekend

I was using Hyprland with my nvidia installation on Kde using an alternate script to install and it worked okay except i have a tv for one display hooked up and Firefox always opened on that display but chromium didnā€™t. Probably i would have to mess with that but otherwise it was working.

Appreciate the efforts youā€™re putting in. Looks solid. Gonna install this on other laptop when itā€™s ready for prime time/testing ;D
