Today, I changed the layout of the forum using the boxes layout, which some of you might know from other Discourse forums, with the latest three topics displayed in each category, to have a better overview of the latest posts in each category.
When you click on latest, new, unread or top, they still display the posts as you were used to.
There’s also a new category called Important notifications, this category displays pinned posts about manual interventions, upstream bugs and other messages.
Mods and admins can only create a new post in this category. So if you have created a post that is about such topics, also notify a mod or admin and we will add it to this category.
I was afraid if @dalto changed some of my settings Whoever doesn’t like the new “windozs 8” layout can ofc change their default landing page/home page in interface settings.
With this layout, the subcategories are better shown. (If you haven’t noticed, when clicking on the main categories, the subcategories will appear with their latest posts)
If you want to show only the categories and subcategories I’d personally go for the Categories view (or Categories with Featured Topics if you want to show some threads too). For me, the Boxes view works better within a category view to show subcategories (e.g.), and/or when there is a category banner image.
Otherwise, if you’re sticking with Boxes then you might consider re-ordering them so it’s e.g. Announcements, Notifications, General on the first line (etc.).
thanks, but you should have added that the “old” layout is not part of the options
Anyway, I always go to “New” when I visit so that is my new default.
Allow me to expand of why i hate it and previous one was more useful to have, because on a same page you had:
Latest threads
Unread threads
All categories and subcategories bird-view
Now to have access to all of that you must do a lot of clicks
Some people, especially newcomers will have difficulty to even know about existence of some subcategories, because first you have to click through bunch of main categories and take a big guess of where such sub-category might be (gaming for example) …
Sure some regulars like us will find our ways around, but you know
I reloaded the forum a few I was quite confused. I am not too fond of not seeing new posts on the homepage, but it might just require some getting used to and will end up liking it more.
you can change the default startpage in your settings to show the same as before… the idea is to better guide users to the right place to post any issue in the first place.
