External 6T hdd got "lost" in a brandnew installation.. why?

i have my external usb 6TB hdd plugged in and it shows on thunar . as i was copying back what i have backed up (before installation of new en.os), half way, copying got error… saying can’t find the file…
i looked into thunar, and there is the first problem i encounter (apart from lcd too bright issue) on en.os : my external 6TB hdd just randomly disapeared… maybe got dismounted… no idea.
i unplug and plug in the hdd, and it is back… if i just leave the thunar along, not touching the 6TB hdd, the 6TB hdd will still be here on thunar for as long as it could be… but once i have “double clicked” the 6TB hdd, i entered the 6TB hdd, but the 6TB hdd listing (on the left panel of thunar) is immediately gone… although i still can browser the content of the hdd , as i have “double clicked” it already

why it behave that way ?
however my “another dockable hdd” stay listed on left panel all the time (i just tried to browse thing inside that hdd, it still there… listing won’t goes out).

Could be a power issue. Is the external disk powered via USB or has it a separate power connection? What model is it? If it is powered only via USB port, is it connected to an USB 3.x port? Do you know the Amps your USB port can provide?

Sounds like the drive is dying.

Any useful error messages in log (ie dmesg and journalctl -p err -b ).

What file system? Do a file system check if you can.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fsck

Run drive hardware checks.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/S.M.A.R.T.

If drive dies file recovery may be possible.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/File_Recovery

It may well be USB powersaving in TLP

Log messages will either confirm or deny.

no power issue, it came with it own power supply. big usb hdd i think is mybook by western digital.

no…not dying… it is a new drive i bought just last year… surely not hardware issue… never make any weird noise or anything that sign it is bad.

Still check. 6TB HDD you say, 3.5 Inch or 2.5 Inch? And this is being used as an external hard drive? 3.5 Inch HDDs are extremely touchy when being used as an external hard drive. I’ve had those die on me after being gently sat down on a table.

3.5inch.
dmsg creates such a big log… what to look for ?

As an IT consultant to small businesses, I have seen many instances of bad disk enclosures, where the soldering or componentry onboard was simply too cheap and refused to work once it got warmed up. Don’t assume it’s the OS’ fault.
Use dmesg -T to check for USB disconnects.

how to post ? i hav tried many time, forum keeps saying too wordy…

forum does not allow me to post… i have reduced by a lot, it still says too much character…

dmesg -T

That’s a lot happening. Simplify things, as it appears you are using some sort of USB hub? How about removing all USB devices, then putting the WDBook back on, then monitoring the dmesg -T, to see how long it takes and if it disconnects.

Do as @onyxnz asked, that way we can rule out if the Hub is causing the problems.

Does the Hard Drive crash and disconnect in your file browser now that it’s connected directly to the machine?

yes, the hdd is direct connect to laptop now, it is copying the same volume of data i was copying… it will take some time…24gb… still copying.
last time it disconnected when i left it copying by itself. hence i have no idea what or until where it got disconnected.

So it’s behaving better now that it’s directly connected?
Sorry just read the last sentence, we will wait and see what happens
