External 6T hdd got "lost" in a brandnew installation.. why?

no different so far. cant tell until it finish copied all the files.

could it be that this time no disconnection will occur ? because i am monitoring it ? i meant the laptop could have goes to black screen or power save after several minutes of no activity… and this time i am using the laptop… hence it will not go black screen or something which might affect hdd disconnection.

Do check your power management settings, to make sure there is not a SLEEP happening when powered up. However, I suspect your issue is the USB hub, or the number of devices on it, as hubs have to be powered too.

the hub is powered. i used it on manjaro too, but never have any prob

Sure, but that doesn’t necessarily imply that it has enough power to cope with all the devices running at once. IDK enough about Manjaro to know if they have anything different in the way they handle peripherals, but I doubt that this is the OS’ doing, versus flakey silicon+solder in a USB hub. Do the same tests on Manjaro?

not same test, but i did do a huge deep search into the hdd from manjaro, which takes minutes… nothing problem occurs.

pls be noted: that i have install multiple DE onto my laptop this installation. hence i have got many notepad software, many screenshot software on it. to try out when i have got time.
i just use xfce only so far, the rest of DE i have no time to touch it yet. however i notice something weird. the screen shot software that came with xfce, which i used yesterday… but today, it show spectacle instead of what i saw yesterday (when i press “print” button)
how come screenshot software change by itself ?

No idea. Don’t use XFCE myself. How about opening a new thread for such a topic, so that those who do could see + answer?

i am looking at xfce power manager… i wanted to take a screenshot to save to imgur… but the screenshot app changed to spectacle… hindering me to post to imgur…

the setting was: put to sleep after 10 mins on plugged in…
could this above causing problem ?
i didn’t do the setting, it was preset when i do installation of en.os.

Yes it could.
One of the first things I do when setting up a new OS is configuring the power management to be for my environment, otherwise you’re accepting the DE or distro-parent defaults which are generally deemed to be fine for most people. (Never me, either!)

problem occured.

it prompted "error when getting information for file “/run/media/…”. no such file or directory. however the 6TB hdd is still listed on the left panel.

Listed but not mounted?
dmesg -T | grep disconnect
and
mount

however i tried using thunar to access the data in the 6TB hdd, it still able to play video file on it.

Ok, so it really is disconnected. Unplug, replug, then tell me what happens? Use dmesg -T also, and what is your local time there (just so I know when looking at your dmesg logs)?

how can i play video file from the hdd using thunar if it really got disconnected ?

it is 00:22 now… i roughly calc the error was at 00:00 to 00:04
