EOS in Virtualbox - not booting after update - vmclient change

By way of getting to know - and eventually switch to - EOS I have been playing in Virtualbox on Mint Debian. When stuff works I then transfer what I have done to a spare machine.

In every VM I have ever set up - irrespective of OS - I have always set the Graphics Controller as VMSVGA and all has been well.

I haven’t used the VM for a while as all is going well on hardware.

Yesterday I booted the VM, ran pacman -Syu and rebooted. Boot stopped at Reached Target - Graphical Interface.

I recalled seeing that there had been an update to vmclient in EOS. No changes in Debian.

Poking around I found a couple of error messages - end result was that I needed to change the VM to VBoxSVGA and all was well.

Not sure if this will be of any use to anyone but recording it just in case.

Probably it is about package xf86-video-vmware which needs to be downgraded to version 13.4.0-3.
Note that the LTS kernel may fail anyway.

Thank you for the quick response. As it is working OK I will leave well alone unless something else pops up. Working fine with LTS kernel.

I uninstalled xf86-video-vmware completely, and here the VM works with both the default and the LTS kernel.

Interesting. Removed xf86-video-vmware as suggested and swapped back to VMSVGA - all good.
Thank you.
