Cellphone recommendations? Long time iphone user here

Nice that you have the wifi option. I swear my service bounces of the backs of seagulls and beavers to get to me

I hope you thank the beavers and gulls for their service!

Happy Rooting!

What carrier do you have?

Virgin Mobile

Edit: I just got the cheapest one. N100 not the 5G model N10 which is $150 more.

Knowing from experience, getting out of the “apple ecosystem” is going to be a pain.
I recommend to get an Android phone first, don’t jump too far and get a de-googled phone first.

Curious about a “de-googled” phone. What is available to purchase besides fx tec pro 1 and pine?

Um, not sure who you are refering to, but I have USMobile, MVNO of Verizon

Half of this thread is about that exact topic… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sorry, didn’t read the whole post. I’ve just been replying.

I jailbroke a se when it was on 10.2 I think. Still to restrictive for me.

that was likely not the 2020 model though… but the previous one that was a rebranded iphone 6?

Correct, the previous one, cydia

… do you mean Google would be a mandatory step between Apple ans freedom

More seriously, one could “ungoogled” many Android phones, no need to purchase a very specific model. (even if there is some that “does” it tight out of the box as mentioned before)

And regarding the iPhone “gap” (the fear of staying lost inside your own phone i guess ^^), i guess one could customize (any?) Android phone to look and feel like iOS (sure many launcher can do that, maybe easier with root access…)

So, almost any Android could end up degoogled

And… no Linux Phones around here ??

Right, knew all that. I thought their might have been a factory Ubuntu Touch or something I wasn’t aware of

Ended up re-installing GrapheneOS for the time being. My Realme X2 Pro will serve as my normal phone, for phone calls, using YouTube, social media etc, while the Pixel will serve as my more private WiFi only device for secure browsing and camera.

Where the Pixel 5 falls down in terms of hardware is the sound. The speaker isn’t the greatest, featuring a single down-firing speaker, and has a smaller screen. Viewing YT & Twitch videos is a much better experience on the X2 Pro, with its bigger screen and dual speaker setup. But the Pixel is absolutely fine for internet browsing and being restricted to F-Droid FOSS apps :+1:

Sorry, i meant, no Linux phones USERS here ?

Looks like I’ll have to re-install CalyxOS after all. Graphene won’t/can’t install GCam, as it requires some Google APIs. Fortunately these are part of microG, so Calyx will have it covered.
