Browsers of choice

LibreWolf has been interesting, but it has some real issues which are making it difficult for me to make the switch. Such a shame.2021-01-12_08-48

Dialog box can’t be moved so I can see the buttons to click.

  1. Language may be some protective measure related to privacy, but if not - you can create issue (if you don’t want to please write to me, coz i want it anyway :upside_down_face: )

  2. Dialog box can’t be moved so I can see the buttons to click.
I suspect that may be page itself, how to get this dialog to test?

P.S. sorry for double-message, forum was kinda wonky throwing 500 error

It happens for me anytime I visit Youtube. Same page on Firefox gives these boxes which are in the right place for me to click.

The interesting thing with “Free Speech” is that its “recent apostles and advocates” use it as a pretext to foment the spread of hatred and incite committing act of violence. These people have no interest at all in “freedom” or “freedom of speech”. We have seen their treatment of other media/platforms that doesn’t support their “alter” narrative.

Freedom can only be defined in negative terms, that is the absent of some or other constraints. Freedom without any constraints will inevitably lead to barbarism in act and speech.

If constricting freedom means to take an stand against barbarism in act and speech I am totally fine with it. We can see in a historical retrospective what barbarism in speech and act lead us to in 1930-1940 decades. So taking an stand against violence and hatred, both in speech and act, is not only a civic duty but a moral obligation for those who truly care for freedom, diversity, peace, civility and fraternity between people of the world.

Let’s try to stay on topic. We’re talking browsers of choice here.

I don’t use Parler too, but I do care about what’s happening… anyway, we are still free to choose, at least so far.
but if things keep going in that direction… we won’t be able to choose anymore.

Chromium and Brave

Here you go, i’ve created issues hopefully they’ll get fixed:

  1. Can’t update language settings
  2. Youtube dialog can’t be moved

You see, you visit You tube voluntarily. You don’t have to.
When you visit anyone else’s web site, hosting service, you do it at your free will, and if you don’t like their conditions, you stay away from them, and that too at your free will.

I stay away from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc, for I don’t have time for gossiping. But, I visit You tube everyday. Sometimes, I sign in, sometimes I don’t.

I need web browsers to browse the web and for work. Opera and Vivaldi are the most feature rich browsers. Those features are needed for work. I am using and trying out MS Edge dev for Linux. It has few features less than those two, but it is nice to try something coming up. Nothing political.

Just tried LibreWolf. It is not exactly Libre, for the user cannot choose Google as the search engine. A Libre-something shouldn’t be biased.

I thought that was the idea, no google?

its free from google and telemetry, libre essentially means being free of something more than anything, so librewolf perfectly applies
edit: another definition would be also that its “With very few limitations on distribution or improvement; including source code.”
which would also apply

It seems slightly under-maintained, It’s still using firefox 64(get that aspect for security) but the last commit (at least on the github) was almost 3 years ago. Am I wrong are they developing it somewhere else?

It’s up to date with latest Firefox stable:

I need to start checking gitlab!! Thank for the information.

A word of caution. Opera has been sold some time ago and their new owners are not really focused on security/privacy. Not saying anything about the browser, everyone is free to make his own evaluation, just made sure the information is known.

Not sure what point you’re trying to make and in fact I think it’s irrelevant. Regardless what site I “choose” to visit the browser I use ought to work.

Anyone?
