Alt-tabbing black screens and crashes all apps except KDE

Hello guys, sorry for this “repost” but seems it occurred to me to search/post a few days too late. You can see it was reported in this thread however it was closed after some days after the last response and solution.

I have NOT tried X11 desktop, but on Wayland, it seems that alt-tabbing still crashes the desktop. For me, I can alt-tab sometimes many times, other times it freezes for 1 second the screen, then I get a black screen, then it recovers and only “KDE” Apps remain open. Everything else crashes.
On the other thread, there’s a bug report on KDE linked, which was a duplicate of another one and it’s marked as “Upstream solved”. But I guess we are still getting those issues.
More so, the line “QtRenderer” on “~.config/kdeglobals” does not show up for me to remove.

Can anyone confirm if this is working fine with x11? And what do we do with the issue? Do we report it again on the KDE bugs report?

Is there a reason you don’t try it yourself in an X11 session? You can test it yourself.

If you don’t know how to, follow the instructions here: Plasma 6 Update some hints

Points 1 and 4.

I know I can just switch the desktop session when logging in, but I work throughout the day with the computer. I was working at the time of writing that, and I did not want to change anything that would break things worse (Not saying it 100% would, but it could). I will do so during the weekend when I have a bit more time to fix things if needed or look for solutions.

In the meantime, I thought of asking directly because it’s faster and easier in the case that someone for their use case is using X11 or they tested themselves already and could provide an answer.

On the link, I have an RX 7600 AMD GPU, no Nvidia and I don’t use auto-login. Or I think I don’t. I have to input my password, so I assume I don’t.

Wayland issues are random, that is, if this is a Wayland issue. They are more likely with Nvidia GPUs, but they are still random per user and per system. That being said, so are KDE issues since KDE 6.

Once you get the chance, check it out and see if there’s a difference.

True. I keep present I’m a “waylander” now, but I keep “forgetting” Plasma 6 (6.1 - .2?) is also quite recent which in turn could also have many weird bugs.

I will try later today when I’m off work, tomorrow as the latest and report back! Thank you  Hope you have a great Friday.

You too. :vulcan_salute:

Strangely, and very annoyingly… I have been alt-tabbing for the past 20 minutes, on and off, quick release, holding down the alt… nothing. Zero issues.

I’ll mark that as solution because… I guess there’s no issue?

Nowadays, often times the solution is to check if it’s happening in X11, and if it’s not, then just wait for an update.
