Whenever I load the alt-tab menu, most applications crash. If I very quickly press alt-tab, it works fine, but if I hold down alt for too long beforehand or hold alt and tab for too long, then applications such as Steam, Discord, and Firefox all crash, but not others like Dolphin and Konsole.
Have you tested under both Wayland and X11 to see if the behaviour is consistent?
There is a reported bug here under Wayland. Note the fix detailed at the bottom of that report.
The workaround there works for me:
