As I reinstall only when I really mess things up (like every 1-2 years), I generally donât need to be hardening FF again and again. But I get what you mean.
I may try out Mullvadâs Browser soon, though, if I can build it. I wonât be adding any more AUR/Flatpaks/etc. apps to my system. Was only quick to try Zen because they have both a âportableâ package and an Appimage.
Trying to limit myself to Official repos, GIT packages, portables, and Appimages.
Edit #1: Just checked their site and noticed they have what seems to be a portable package.
Edit #2: Yep. Up and running.
Edit #3: Itâs using the old file-chooser rather than XDG. Will have to figure that out. Also, I may actually not use it, as it seems to be a little too locked down for me.
Iâm going thru something digitally/philosophically similar as far as minimizing: official, aur, the creatorâs tarball at their website. Thatâs it.
I donât know who audits flatpaks and appimages. Sourceforge for me is isos only. Git I have usedâuneasily as some things have plain not worked. Itâs a journey, isnt it?
For me, Appimages are no different from tarballs/portables because Iâm only downloading them from the official devâs page.
If I feel the need to go in and check if everything is good when downloading from the official devâs page, I shouldnât be using the devâs app at all from any source.
I downloaded the appimage today. Iâm not totally sold, but I kinda prefer the sidebar approach.
You just have to get used to it, like any UI change. I prefer (for better utilization of ultrawide monitor) to have my desktop bars and panels on the sides too.
I now use the Zen browser from time to time. Of course, you have to get used to the bookmarks on the page. Itâs the same with everything. Once it works, it works
But I also prefer the bookmarks as a bookmark list at the top. I have only activated do not close browser last tab in config and use a modified ublock origin. Must say, somehow quite pleasant for surfing.
For daily logins like bank, mail or EOS forum I still use Arkenfox with multi-account containers.
I just donât like it. Itâs just not something I can get used to. Even on my 32" desktop monitor, it just looks wrong to me. And on my 15.6" laptop, itâs a no-go.
I donât think the function is bad at all. You can show or hide the sidebar with bookmarks. As described above, Iâve got used to it in the meantime.
I may have to try it but Firefox for me is a great browser. I only use ublock origin and Firefox is the only browser I have stuck with for a long long time.
Yes, I have to agree with you. But itâs the same for me. So far Iâve only used this Zen browser for surfing. I got so used to Firefox that it was really hard for me when I saw this Zen interface
Iâve been using it for a few days now and I have to say that Zen is also a lot of fun
I think for me with all the browsers available that are out there it is a matter of trust also. I have relative trust in using Firefox compared to other browsers.
Forcing an UI âchangeâ onto users is really the Apple way - that enough is the reason for me not to check it out. Every other browser has bookmarks on top. Whatâs wrong with those devs? Letâs change it to be different? Nope, not my browser.
your containers are doing the work methink. I thought arkenfox was weak medicine in Firefox. I always did a better job (about:config) myself. Being on Firefox anymore for is like being on windows anymoreâalways fighting. I thought Betterfox was better âmedicineâ than Arken, but both blot out a lot of crap.
I gave up on FF and turned it over to MullvadâŠbut I can only blame myselfâI have always been too lazy to learn/setup containers. I have no doubt you are running smoothly.
