XFCE is super slow 70% of the time i log in

I don’t see anything, this is barely two minutes worth of logs, @Bink there wasn’t even enough time to see the wlan messages. The previous log was for a longer period. But wifi connection issues shouldn’t slow down the system, unless you are running something that depends on an internet connection.

@Lexi-Alder-Lake you need to run journalctl -b -0 | eos-sendlog after you start to experience the issue. Meanwhile you can run journalctl -f to see the journal messages in real time, that might give a clue about the cause. For us would be helpful if you noted the time when the system feels slow.

I just mentioned pacnew files as a wild guess. I don’t know how to explain pacnew files better, but outdated configuration can cause issues in rare cases, mirrorlists are just a regular part of pacnew maintenance, I just mentioned mirrorlists to help the maintenance process, but they’re not relevant here.

Both of those logs are still pointing fairly squarely to a WiFi issue relating to the Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi adaptor.

When the slow-down happens, you could try running this to disable WiFi, to see if it makes a noticeable performance difference:

sudo rfkill block wlan

To then re-enable it:

sudo rfkill unblock wlan

With WiFi disabled, you would also have the opportunity to test tethering from your phone instead.

the dpaste link is not from the same boot or you need to run -b command after the slow down happens not before.

from the -f log I see you started chrome, which will obviously experience slow downs if you have wifi issues.

Usually there is a fallback firmware for realtek drivers, since you said you started having issues after update, you should try the other one

The dpaste link and -f log are from the same boot and i did it right after the slow down started the only other thing i did was open chrome so i could paste the link. As far as the firmware being bad i haven’t the slightest clue as to how to change that or the driver for it.

If you’re using an Android:

Make sure your phone is connected to WiFi, and the USB tethering should hopefully provide access to that WiFi connection (and not mobile data). If you want to be extra sure it’s not using your mobile data, pop the phone into flight mode, but then turn WiFi back on, or turn off your mobile data.

If you’re using an iPhone, I’m not sure you can USB tether, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, it’s performing the WiFi function on behalf of your system, for the purposes of this test.

I was able to connect my phone via usb and it sets it up as a “wired connection” just have to keep restarting and see when the slow down eventuallyt happens if turning that on and disabling the wifi fixes it.

So I’ll be trying to recreate the slow down later on today i had a busy couple days and well i was planning on doing some tinkering with it this morning but I’ve wasted 4 hours on the webkit2gtk debacle on my i3 setup.
