Hi, i just wanted to ask if x11 its safer to use compared to wayland.
I have an Nvidia rtx 4060 hybrid laptop with ryzen 7 and i have wayland installed but somehow the option of wayland does not show. i changed the gdm/custom.conf for wayland=flase to true but still nothing hapend so if you can, could you help me?
Not another X11 vs Wayland topic… Search around on the forums here or even on the web you will find plenty of topics that have covered your questions already. Just use X11 if you are having issues with Wayland with your Nvidia gpu and if you want more security with X11 sandbox your graphical applications with Firejail or Bubblejail and AppArmor.
Oh come on, what are you talking about?!
I’m sure @Kresimir would be so glad to answer all the questions regarding that topic!
Please mark @Cphusion’s post as solution and let us all live happily ever after.
Joking aside:
Please have a look here and see if it will resolve the issue with Nvidia-GDM-Wayland
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GDM#Wayland_and_the_proprietary_NVIDIA_driver
That’s what I used to enable a Wayland session with my Nvidia gpu.
sudo ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules
Then restart gdm or reboot, which every you prefer.
Thank you for your time i will check the links you sent and ill try to use the things i learned here.
Also be sure to check the link @pebcak shared of how to activate a Wayland session for Nvidia gpu’s with gdm.
