Hey, maybe I’m naive but I was always under the impression that those merch stores create a - albeit small - income for the distros. When you go through one of the usual vendors they take care of the orders and handling and shipping and the distro will just get a %age. Nothing to worry about.
That CAN happen - but you need a staff(!) to handle doing the deals, and keeping on top of things. I suspect we’re not there yet (are we there yet?) in terms of number of personnel. Also, I am not too sure we have a large enough audience to make it worth while for the suppliers, either. To me it seems that it is one of those ideas that ‘someone’ should look into, and we’re short of ‘someone’.
That is true and I have been looking into it also. The issue is that those companies are US based, they do ship internationally, but those costs plus the local taxes you have to pay in your own country, especially for EU countries, can be a main obstacle for a lot of people to order these.
I just checked: For EU customers Manjo have outsourced the merchandise to spreadshirt.com in the UK, and Minty uses HelloTux in Hungary. I betcha not a single dev team member has filled any order form or sent a packet to any customer. These are deals between the merchandiser and the end-user. The merchandiser will just send you a percentage of the monies.
And I’m quite sure inside the EU there are quite some of those t-shirt printers and mailorder companies as well.
I’m sitting here at the ass-end of the world in a 3rd world country and I know at least 3 companies in a 30 mins radius who will at least do the printing job. Dunno if they are equipped with the capacities to do mailorder tho.
Oh hey, Bryan if you wanna sell your own line of Endeavour lappies, why dontcha contact https://laptopwithlinux.com/. These guys are located in NL. Maybe they are open for a colab.
Would like to buy EndeavourOS stickers so I can throw one on my work laptop
I can vouch for the Spreadshirt quality, as I set up Buddies of Budgie merch through them and have not only received my order here in EU with the expected quality, but seen images of similar quality from folks buying from U.S. shop. I would recommend starting with a small set of options first and gradually expanding them, as you have to duplicate the effort between the EU and non-EU shops, which can be a pain.
I would suggest going with another vendor like Redbubble for stickers though. There is no sizing option for stickers on Spreadshirt, so they turn out really large.
While I admit that a 5-axis laser-powered CinC cut would be preferable, I am not sure about the relative budget considerations… SWMBO may have valuable input in many cases?
That’s awesome freebird … the last time I saw someone throw out SWMBO was on a woodworking forum … coincidentally it was also related to resisting the desire to purchase a piece of multi-axis CNC equipment!
