Windows tearing/artifacts during minimizing/maximizing window (GNOME)

so current way to enable wayland for nvidia looks to be

Edit the /etc/gdm/custom.conf, make sure #WaylandEnable=false is either commented out or set to true and uncommented

force-enable Wayland, disable the udev
sudo ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules

enable kms-modifiers by running this in terminal

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features '["kms-modifiers"]'

and it looks like modeset was already enabled for nvidia-inst you also need to make sure thse packages are installed, double check nvidia-drm.modeset=1 is in your /etc/kernel/cmdline

sudo pacman -Syu --needed xorg-xwayland libxcb egl-wayland

if all works out you can select wayland and test if this continues in a wayland session also

did nvidia-inst, before doing it everything was fine without tearing/artifacts, now I have them back (bottom right)

but! Nvidia-settings truly are there

yeah i see the bottom right, thats definitely tearing artifacts

Did everything as you said, can I reboot?

you should be good to go :+1: just on reboot in GDM select GNOME instead of GNOME on XORG as your session

Not as good…

I’m stuck with that

is that when you login or is GDM not starting?

Seems like gdm (not sure), I didn’t get the logging screen. After ~2 minutes I got the logging screen, but it’s frozen

ok, so thats strange and a problem…

so running X11 you get screen tearing, trying to run wayland things dont start, and this is only after you run nvidia-inst

Yes, also funny what the issue is the same for all distros I tested.

Manjaro works good without drivers, with them I get tearing/artifacts. Same for ubuntu and popos

@dreamer_nn

are you able to switch to a TTY by pressing ctrl+alt+F3? we can get your system back to usable then

By any chance the issue is related to the fact I did nvidia-inst instead of nvidia-inst -n?

I’m not sure I have to install neouvai or not (if I’m not mistaken with nouveau I still have the issue)

did you just run nvidia-inst with no options? and do you have an integrated GPU also?

No, doesn’t work. Also I noticed I’m able to login, but nothing changes, I get logging in cycle animation and afterwards it freezes. I will try to enter tty before logging in

Clear nvidia-inst, no options. Also I don’t have another card, only 1650TI mobile

ok so no hybrid graphics? A lot of mobile systems have hybdrid graphics and you may need to use the --prime option for nvidia-inst

what laptop model do you have?

Can’t enter tty. Can you tell me how to check if I have a hybrid or integrated card, so you could get all the info? I know my gpu is inside the laptop and it’s a 1650TI mobile

Also laptop model

if you tell me the laptop model i can tell you if you have hybrid graphics

Thats really strange you cant even enter a new TTY :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

if you have an intel cpu its very likely hybrid graphics

Now I feel stupid since I see the sus “Radeon graphics”
