Why are you using EndeavourOS instead of using Arch Linux?

I used EndeavourOS for a long time and now using Arch Linux for some moths already. Actually I got some Python issues in Arch Linux that I’m not able to solve. But it’s a different topic.

Maybe I’ll reinstall Arch Linux. Now I’m wondering if I should switch back to EndeavourOS again. I like both distributions equally.

I’m curious and wonder why you prefer EndeavourOS over Arch Linux.

EndeavourOS has a better setup out of the box

When it comes to pure Arch, I don’t have the knowledge to install it in a way that meets my needs. EOS does exactly what it’s supposed to. It offers a rolling release system and that Arch feel, with a great community, and it’s relatively easy to install and set up.

I like to think of it like this:

Vanilla Arch is like building a house, you need to do everything from foundations to plumbing and electrical wiring. If you do it wrong…oops.

EndeavourOS is the closest of all Arch-based distros to vanilla but the devs have done an amazing job of putting it together so you have that minimal Arch feel but with all the relevant plumbing and wiring already set up to go.

For me, the community experience is a big part of it.

“EndeavourOS: Arch without the Klingon pain sticks”

Nowadays, whenever I install a new system (whatever os) the way to get me to a black TTY screen, if I find any, that’s the way I choose.

From there, I’ll be doing it “My Way” :musical_notes: :musical_notes:

EndevourOS is bloated. Arch is superior.
Will always use EndevourOS and live with the bloat, for a single reason: To honor this community. I am an EndevourOS zealot, fanatic, lunatic with all my heart.

I use everything and always had Arch on my main rigs and after reading post about the archinstall script, I decided to give it a try.

I was pleasantly surprised at what the installer pulled in automatically.

Would I use it again over the manually install of arch? Likely.

There is a reason why I started with endeavouros and there is a reason why I stay with endeavouros.

I started with EnOS because it was easy to install compared to Arch Linux. When I started with EnOS in 2020 that was a big plus.

I am staying with EnOS because the forum is full of (mostly  ) nice people who are willing to answer even dumb questions or questions which are not even related to EnOS. Try that in the Arch forum and you will see what I mean.

Arch takes to much time and effort for me. I mean I enjoyed the freedom and the experience but the reality is I just want to install the system and get back to my work. EndeavourOS gives me everything I want and nothing I don’t. I of course have my own package list so after a Successful install of the OS It only takes a few moments to get things back to normal. I haven’t bothered with Arch since I discovered EndeavourOS. I keep telling myself I should try the arch installer but I have yet to do so.

Wow… Thank you very much for your answers and thoughts! I appreciate that. :purple_heart:

As a complete beginner over two years ago, I found it easier to set up, and I’m comfortable with it now. Plus, there’s the forum/community, which I wouldn’t want to do without. I don’t see any reason to change that.

I’m not, or not exclusively. If I were to throw out a VM, it’s as likely to be EndeavourOS, Cachy, or plain Arch. All work fine, and actually the fastest setup is plain Arch usually for a minimal test box.
If I wanted a ‘production’ desktop, i’d still feel that all three were viable.

:enos: has been the 2nd distro I’ve ever used. I have found no reason to ever switch away from this wonderful distro and it’s awesome community.

i saw this meme short on tube.. and that is exactly i feel lazy to install vanilla arch.

Which one?

here you go buddy.

I searched a fancy space distro. I found a fancy space distro. I installed a fancy space distro.

Apart from that, coming from Garuda, I wanted something that doesn’t have everything set up as I wanted to learn something… But I also wanted to not have to do EVERYTHING. I mean shure archinstall exists, but eh… I wouldn’t have this cool forum, some tools that EOS comes with that I really like as it makes life easier… And the overall space theme…
I find Arch is kinda boring tbh when you look at it

I took several distro-recommendation quizzes, wasn’t recommended to use EOS, but EOS got consistently higher scores than many others, higher than Arch.

It’s easier and faster to install and has good defaults.

It pretty much matches what I would do with a pure Arch install by ~90% already OOB.
