apparently most of them were disabled on my machine. I probably went through them a year or more ago.
just for curiosity’s sake can you disable all the telemetry settings cippola mentioned and check if the chatter is the same? it’s worth seeing if it can be shut up with the right settings.
I’ve already tested it. Went out a lot anyway. Did everything from your link + a little more. Firefox likes to talk
there are some more to disable
devtools.onboarding.telemetry.logged = false`
toolkit.telemetry.updatePing.enabled = false
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.telemetry = false
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.telemetry = false
browser.ping-centre.telemetry = false
toolkit.telemetry.bhrPing.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.firstShutdownPing.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.hybridContent.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.newProfilePing.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.reportingpolicy.firstRun = false
toolkit.telemetry.shutdownPingSender.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.unified = false
toolkit.telemetry.updatePing.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.reportingpolicy.firstRun = false
toolkit.telemetry.unified = false
toolkit.telemetry.archive.enabled = false
devtools.onboarding.telemetry.logged = false
toolkit.telemetry.bhrPing.enabled = false
datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled = false
datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled = false
datareporting.sessions.current.clean = true
datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled = false
datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled = false
datareporting.sessions.current.clean = true
Then find toolkit.telemetry.server
. Double-click the first configure, delete the URL and save the changes.
If you check LibreWolf gitlab you’ll notice that there are A LOT more than what’s been posted already, literally hundredS of settings to disable in Firefox
Also as far as i understood some code should be taken off from source, but don’t quote me on that
Yep, it’s probably easier to download LibreWolf. I’ve been through everything in Firefox soon!
For those using LibreWolf, do you use other extensions other then what it comes with?
I have it as it is from the beginning. No extra extensions or anything.
So …what have you decided? You don’t like Firefox anymore? Which one are you using Librewolf or Ungoogled Chromium?
I’m not sure yet.
I run Ungoogled Chromium in Windows + Firefox. In Linux LibreWolf + Firefox.
I’ll never stop liking Firefox. I’ve been running it for so long!
Oh okay , I thought you didn’t like the telemetry so you were going to not use it. I tried ungoogled chromium and it takes a long time to create it. I wonder when it needs updating what it is like? Also i tried librewolf and it is okay also. But i also like Firefox a lot.
I don’t like telemetry. But Firefox as a browser there is no problem with.
Ungoogled Chromium, I run portable. I just download a new one and remove the old one. It has one folder left so you don’t have to keep on getting bookmarks and so on.
Nope, i’m pretty happy with just uBlock origins coming with browser, just added some custom filters
Of course.
Which ones do you use?
In alphabetical order, I currently have :-
-
Adblocker for Youtube
-
Bitwarden
-
Chameleon
-
ClearURLs
-
Decentraleyes
-
Stop AutoPlay Next for Youtube
-
Tab Reloader
-
Undo Close Tab
-
xBrowserSync
Some of these are at the suggestion of privacytools.io and the rest just make life easier. Ironically I removed the one addon that comes bundled - uBlockOrigin as I have a pi-hole. Also no longer need HTTPS Everywhere as that’s included in the settings.
I was looking for one to spoof browser profile
is it working fine?
Just a fair warning that this will most likely decrease your privacy. The pi-hole is purely a DNS level blocker. It can’t handle the situation where you have a single domain which provides both good content and intrusive content.
If all you are worried about is blocking ads, the pi-hole is probably fine by itself. However, if you are looking for more sophisticated blocking or are concerned about privacy I would recommend combining the pi-hole with more advanced in-browser blocking.
Yes, depending if you use the screen resolution you may need to whitelist a site or two so that it displays correctly.
The pihole is just one tool in my arsenal.
