Which music player do you run under Linux?

it’s been about a year, still loving vanilla gapless

I used to use Amarok back in the days and Clementine was always an option, too. Nowadays I mostly stream via Tidal-hifi or Spotify.

Tidal using web, AUR or something else?

I use mostly rmpc/mpd and Audacious for local or Youtube-music (th-ch) for streaming

I really like rmpc for managing large music libraries and it has been and easy and efficient solution for broadcasting music all around the house (or just a part)

There is a third party tidal client available as flatpak. Works pretty well, except for downloads. It transforms the web-client into a “desktop“ app and streams in hifi/max quality utilizing widevine for DRM.

You can find it here on Github tidal-hifi by mastermindzh

The package as a flatpak can be installed via:

flatpak install tidal-hifi

Audacious, Clementine, DeaDBeef

Heads up for anybody using Plexamp as an AppImage. At least for me I have to manually re-select the output source for Plexamp every time I reboot or relaunch the app. This has been the case for a few versions now. Plex seems really slow at fixing this issue.

However, the flatpak version seems to be working fine. I only noticed this because I finally was able to fix my flatpak installation/configuration and tested Plexamp through that. Generally I’m not a fan of flatpak, but some apps do work better as flatpaks. Plexamp and Syncthingy for example.

Audacious / Deadbeef

Hello,

I’ve installed Tidal through the flathub command but it’s not launching. I guess I should use the AUR (I had the same problem with Jitsi, found a command on flathub but had to uninstall and reinstall through Yay/Paru.

Is it the same issue here or am I missing something ? (I’m new on Linux and EOS so I’m sorry if the question seems dumb or if there’s something I misunderstood)

@Ashka, this thread is about what your using. If you’re having issues with a specific player, please post a new thread about your issues.

Audacious — only for playing music. Simple, low overhead, good quality. It does one thing and does it well.

For cataloguing and editing tags, I use a variety of tools.

fooyin for several months, before mostly audacious

My use is a little different - I don’t play music locally on the PC. I have a NAS feeding a BluSound Node plugged into my HiFi. Thus the unofficial BluOS Controller for Linux (appimage) is my choice. And it does everything I want with a great interface.

Used Rhythmbox a lot until I started using Strawberry.

Have just started trying Amarok again, as its development has been picked up again.

I’ve been very happy with deadbeef, it’s in the AUR.

I use Audacious, which is another WinAmp clone. I should give this a look though. Don’t know about QMMP but Audacious will also connect directly to radio stations as long as they stream on the web.
