What VPN provider do you use?

Oh, makes sense :upside_down_face:
So Bo Weaver start his speech introducing it around 12:38

NordVPN is more expensive than a local provider. But it’s cheap when you use it 12 months. What do you think about vpn router or boxes which encrypts the whole traffic of your Internet Connection.

If you want all your clients to go through VPN, a VPN router is great. Don’t have to have a program in all the stuff.

However, if you have many clients and fast line, it costs. You must have a reasonably good router.

How much do you pay per month for your vpn?
I’m not a fan of long term contracts like 12 or 24 months.

If you talk to me, I don’t use a VPN. I’ve done it and I don’t really remember what I paid. Latest was from ProtonVPN I think.

nordvpn only makes financial sense if you prepay for 2+ years of service. Otherwise, there are other providers who offer better service for the same or a lower price. When I bought mine it was something like $80 for 36 months.

If you would prefer a month to month provider, you should probably consider a different option.

Also, if I am being honest, I find their countdown counters which seem to reset every day somewhat shady. It makes it a little hard for me to trust them with my privacy.

I would be wary of taking a VPN for 2 years. A lot can happen in two years. Maybe you’ll save a few bucks. But not worth the risk!

I found what I paid:

ProtonVPN

SEK

It was for a year. Still active but not using it.

I find the 2-year deals to be worth the ‘commitment’ - as the price is more in line with the value provided! Even if you dropped them, it still wouldn’t be that much - and the ‘break point’ where you are saving comes quite quickly.

Of course, you have to figure they’ll be around long enough for you to receive all the service! And all the other considerations, too. I am on PIA, and reasonably happy with its capabilities and speed - and teh fact that they contributed to getting WireGuard going - as well as covering Linux quite well re: installer and updates. Open source, too - if you’re good enough to check through it…

but is it like Firefox Private Window?

It serves a similar function but it is not identical. For example, it doesn’t block extensions.

For me, it is much more useful than a private window since it is configurable, rules based and automatic. The way I have it configured, I get the isolation without having to ask for it, pick and choose or have separate windows.

I use a lot private windows, and I allowed some addons to run on it

I am far from well-versed in the subject of VPN providers, but I just recalled that I had read sometime ago about the aqcuisition of PIA by a company with a rather dubious past. I found the article here:

I don’t see that this makes all that much difference - it was always based in a 5 eyes country (as am I!) - and the ties in the past were with those kinds of things. I am unsure that thee IS a good answer, but the open source, and past record of PIA have sustained me so far. I do not expect it to ‘protect’ me particularly well, but what it does do is useful for its price.

There is no sign (as yet) of practices changing since the acquisition - so I’m waiting until something more recent comes up, and of more significance than just being bought out. I am sure they are being watched!

I’m still saying I don’t need one! Maybe I’m doing the wrong thing, maybe I’m doing the right thing!

At least I’m sick of all the VPN advertising all the time.

Looked at Rob braxman a while ago trying to sell his VPN. There was a lot of rubbish coming out of that mouth. Nothing bad about him, but he’s a little too much sometimes.

What “rubbish” was Rob talking about, he is a business man so there is that.

Interesting info about himself. I might try out his VPN

There was something old I saw. I think he’s knowledgeable. But he was a little much in it.

I’m afraid I don’t see the clip:

Rob Braxman is pretty much a snake oil salesman. He occasionally gets things right, but man he’s not a good authority lol.

Calling someone a name, doesn’t make it so. Can you specifically point to what hes saying or doing that’s wrong, do you personally know him? Have you used his VPN or bought a de-googled phone from him? I’m still weighing my vpn options and still researching is why I’m asking. Thanks
