What video call apps do you use?

A few months back , Me and a friend had tested several Video/Chat apps . Was fun ! First off we decided Skype and Zoom as well as a couple others would be no-go for security reasons .
The quest was to find a Video/Chat app that would be usable on all platforms . Must be mostly secure as possible . Easy simple install . No restrictions .
Although i can’t remember all we tried , some were :

  • Jitsi , to complex , painfull for no reason . To many different named files end up all over making it nightmere to fully uninstall . Difficult to fully get working . Not for average user , My Family anyways .
-Qtox , really wanted it to work , had alot of hope . So close but failed . Installed OK but good luck using it . Maybe Utox better , not sure .
  • Tried a couple others , Nightmere .

It started looking sad , not many were secure . The ones that were secure were to complicated or diden’t work . The ones that worked had big security flaws .

Be careful Folks ! 90+ % are actully spying and stealling data .

Very hard to be free now days ! Anyways not all is lost .
I think there were 3 in the end , with one clear winner . JAMI !
Yes Jami , most secure , all platforms , Easy install , excellent Video and Audio . By far the best we could find and use .

Only con we found was that we had to back-up info for login and such as all stored on machine . If it wasen’t saved , every new install on new machine was new User set-up . Everything is within computer , no middleman .

Definitly Jami was the hands down winner for us . ( https://jami.net/ )

Thx, i’ll make sure to try out Jami! :+1:

What version of Jami you have tried? In official repo there’s only jami-gnome which was last updated
2019-08-31 and in AUR there’s jami-ubuntu-latest which is marked outdated. But there’s also jami-gnome-git. Maybe I should try that?

There’s a Community package . Thats the one were using .

yay -s jami
2 community / jami-gnome , package 1 and 3 will be installed when package 2 is installed .

We mainly use it to tranfer large files to each other while we talk .
