What the D🍆ckens?

Sure.
I won’t punish you anymore for having a bad day… :ok_hand:

I have had to resort to substantiality more offensive words now. Hahaha

The action of a few take away from the many. That is the general trend everywhere in the world. But this isn’t mine, and it’s their choice to change it.

It’s just disappointing for PMs as that’s most of my existence here anymore.

Does the filter allow me to post links to NSFW content?

Yup, as long as the URL does not contain the unlucky sequence of chars. And I’m sure much less innocent and much more revolting stuff would pass the filter just fine.

Pictures containing really disgusting and immoral stuff? No problem.

But can I post a link to an actually useful compiler package on the AUR? No, that’s toO OfFEnSIvE!!!

Can I talk to my friends about Victorian literature in private messages? OMG! BAN HIM!

It seems to me that forum moderation is like updates on Arch Linux: you can try to automate it, but that will create more problems than it solves.

It is not a perfect tool. It doesn’t take a lot of creativity or effort to see it has some limitations which are easily exposed. Still, it has only been up for a few hours so far. We can always make changes in light of legitimate feedback.

This topic seems like more of a trolling effort than constructive feedback, but for for the sake of argument: if someone had a legitimate reason for using a word which was being picked up by the filter, there is some flexibility with the filter tool to use a different action. For example, we could change the rule for that word so it requires mod approval to be posted instead of being outright blocked.

An appropriate way to instigate a change like that would be to send a message to the mod group explaining how the rule was interfering with the link to an AUR package you are trying to share, or the unlucky code you are trying to post, etc. Not create a topic saying “LoOk HoW sTuPId tHiS rULe iS.”

I understand it seems like a nuisance, and I appreciate that for some folks profanity is a casual part of their language, but the simple truth is we have been getting a lot of posts flagged for inappropriate language. It’s annoying and time consuming to deal with. This tool–despite being imperfect in its implementation–at least takes the curse off for the mod team.

I’m going to close this one down because it seems impossible it will turn into a productive conversation, but like I mentioned if anyone has a legitimate suggestion for how to improve the way we are using the tool they can send a private message to the @moderators group where we can review it.
