Quake 3 Arena Demo. Why the demo? Because it gives me quick and easy access to my favorite map, q3dm17.
Back in the day, I could play this map on Nightmare difficulty. Nowadays, my reactions feel a bit sluggish, guess thatās what old age does. ![]()
Can totally relate, a big reason why a lot of the games I play rely on strategy or solving puzzles these days. I still love my shooters but yer canāt play them anywhere close to how I used to.
Iāve been playing a lot of Forza Horizon 6 lately. I like it a lot better than 5 so far.
I like 5 a lot. Looking forward to getting 6.
Oh man, I remember playing Quake Arena and some modern combat mod on our middle school computers. Makes me feel old. ![]()
Guild Wars 1 recently got a huge balance patch for skills. Made the game a bit harder for the most part. More challenging. Lots of build crafting to do. Itās exciting! Such a great game still.
Maybe due to nostalgia, I find that Iām more enjoy playing classic games ![]()
See, I was an Unreal Tournament guy; that it was the better one is a hill I will die on, shot by a railgun presumably. When I fired it up on a whim after a hard day a while back, I logged onto a random server and to my surprise and delight won the match, mostly by knowing how to best use the weapons in different situations. I said to my screen āhah, you kids may be faster but Iāve been playing since before you were born!ā
Then I realised this was not⦠entirely⦠a statement in my favour⦠But experience still counts!
This just reminds me of showing off to my nephews how well I have memorised the first level in Doom, can get under par every time with all kills (about 28 to 27 seconds) and can do it blind (thank you mum for giving us a time limit and for it just being the demo)
Good old days. Cannon Fodder, Street Fighter, Flashback, Desert Strike, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1, Duke Nukem 3D and the gaming era starter
.
Love these games, wasted a lot of time in them, want to do duke nukem 3d again soon
I was a die-hard Q3 player for YEARS until it basically died off. I played Rocket Arena 3 an unhealthy amount, and got really good with the rocket/rail combo, and had an absolute blast. I played in online international tournaments and ran several leagues on Wireplay and Barrysworld (respect to the OGs who remember those!). Bloody loved that game.
Nowadays itās more MMOs, and World of Warcraft is still a mainstay, for now, but Iāve recently got heavily into Guild Wars 2. So much so that I know now which game will become my āmainā after I retire from mythic raiding in WoW, which will likely be the end of the current expansion, when I get my 11th Cutting Edge achievement ![]()
Guild Wars 2 will suit my lifestyle a lot more, as the seasonal scramble on the gear treadmill in WoW is starting to get exhausting. Iām 50 now, and that period of playing intensely for weeks at the start of every tier on a 6 monthly cycle is getting a bit too much hassle.
GW2 avoids all that by using horizontal progression, so gear isnāt a consideration really, and that kind of slow burn, take your time endgame will be much more my style methinks.
āSee, I was an Unreal Tournament guy; that it was the better one is a hill I will die on, shot by a railgun presumably.ā
Rightfully so for such an egregious statement - Q3A 4EVAH!

Got back into Team Fortress 2 lately. Anybody in Europe interested in playing? :3
Been playing Blur (2010).
7.9 on MobyScore, 81 on Metacritic,
Itās Mario Kart, because there are power ups that you throw at your opponents and you can play with 4 players on split screen.
Itās Need for Speed, because Blur has Nissan, Audi, Land Rover ā real-world cars, brands and tracks.
History says, the game was a commercial disaster, nobody was buying it, but in terms of creativity this is it.
It was both a fantastically designed game and one designed by committee, to appeal to everybody and anybody.
Highly recommend watching this fantastic video from Whitelight about the game: https://youtu.be/uwJPHUkft0A
Finished the main story of Pokemon Nova, nice easy team building, challenging (but not overly hard) battles, nice graphics and music. About my only complaint is that it isnāt really āexcitingā to explore the world as a lot of it is very similar and the quest system can feel a little clunky at times.
