What application have you recently discovered?

I only noticed it because the GPU display wasn’t working for me

Aaaand then you checked the documentation, which was my plan

I’m really sorry, that wasn’t my intention

Yeah, I’ve had btop installed for ages. But I never really looked into it. It’s more of a “must-have” program. It wasn’t until I saw a post saying you could also enable the GPU that I got curious

Both btop and htop here :chart_increasing:

Anyone try ‘Shelly’?

I also use Octopi, pacseek, and yay.

Remembering the ton’s of software out there and all the categories to be explored takes a toll on one’s memory. . . The names can be easily forgotten. I’ve install and played a lot with different distro’s over the years and not being a purist , I use anything and everything that I can possibly find to educated myself. Apt for Debian users is another interesting helper. . . if you use Debian. Software package management comes to mind. . .

Rich

Shelly was mentioned multiple times as recently discovered application, just search in this thread. It does not seem to have the best reputation in our community, but I never tried it myself, so take it with a grain of salt.

All software can be buggy. . . the intent of how it can be used as a means to identify what is available and being worked on is what interests me.

Rich

What are the packages for btop and htop?

btop and htop? …did I misunderstand?

i never knew that my favorite subtitleedit do have native port on linux. although it is in beta version but still is nice to have it here. Now i want notepad++ have ported it here also please.. :folded_hands:

I used to enjoy Notepad++ too.

Kate contends well with it, being very polished and lean, but quite powerful too (just not obviously so). It’s what I use now (if not using code).

There’s also Notepad Next, which aims to be a cross-platform reimplimentation of Notepad++ (essentially what you’d requested). I’ve not tried it though.

There’s an AppImage available for that too, so it should be easy enough to try. There are AUR entries as well.

Yeah I too want notepad++ too ported to Linux. I

Need its macro capability badly. There is no text editor which can do what notepad++ can do. Come on notepad++ team, port it.

Notepadnext is a complete replacement, has all functions of notepad++. The devs of notepadd++ don’t want to go Linux.

cmd-launcher is a cool cli minecraft launcher, only downside is it can only handle 1 account at once (for now), I’d never open the official launcher again if it could handle more

tried that. but it isnt even close to what notepad++ are capable off some features are missing even the sorting stuff isnt there. Kate might be a contender but it is also lacking some features

good thing though that notepad++ is working using WINE

i had a doubt whenever a project named after the OG or close to that.. so my expectation would be as close as possible while improving/adding even more

What is exactly not working for you? Some functionality is solved on another way.
My suggestion would be: Ask them to add that functionality in their gitlab.

Try: yay sublime-text-4 @milkytwix @Archie1 @Bink

Why shopuld we? Looks like any other Editor. Maybe good, maybe bad, does not matter. What matter is: It does not look or behave line NotePad++, and that was the requirement here. I’d rather go KAte if Notepadnext was not sufficient for me…

Thanks for the suggestion @cc_spicuous_2 :purple_heart:

I know Sublime Text has enjoyed a bit of a following for a while now. I seem to recall giving it a test drive at points over the years. So far it just hasn’t grabbed me enough to warrant stepping away from code for development, or Kate for general use.

@cc_spicuous_2, as I was checking out Sublime Text, what did catch my attention was Sublime Merge.

Currently, I’m using a combination of command line, or Gittyup (fork of abandoned GitAhead) when I’m needing a more visual view of Git history. It’s ok, but has always felt a little… unfinished.

I’ll be giving Sublime Merge a go so thanks for pointing me that way :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Edit: I mistakenly assumed this was open-source. It’s not. Dark Mode, and probably other features aren’t available unless I purchase it :expressionless_face:
