True. I also abhor DRM and the continued race of “protection” vs piracy. Distribution and production cost with electronic media are much lower than with printed books, they should probably make them cheaper instead of investing all that money in a useless fight. Then more people would buy instead of steal.
It’s a double-edged sword. I can understand that authors need to live, too, and in today’s “grab-n-run” world, we’d soon have no books anymore if everything was free. I mean, financing your living when doing FOSS is the same, right? I lately checked—no donations in 25 years (!).
Let’s just say—in spite of all DRM stuff—they have done a good job with the reader nevertheless. And let’s hope projects like Foliate catch up. Oh, and more shops dare to sell DRM-free EPUBs!
There is https://github.com/readest/readestmodern rewrite of Foliate from one of the original developer who initially started KOReader. (still 2nd highest commits on KOR repo)
This situation reminds me of a book title “Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal!”. Recommendation from Luke Smith.
Edit: Just noticed Luke is active again, 15 videos in just 1month! after 2yrs of break.
VacuumTube is an unofficial wrapper of YouTube Leanback (the console and Smart TV version of YouTube) for the desktop.
It is not a custom client, YouTube Leanback is an official interface. This project simply encompasses it and makes it usable as a standalone desktop application.
OK so I just noticed that you can create a custom sensor, let’s say GPU + CPU temp, monitor which ever hits the higher temp first and control your exhaust fans that way. Really handy! My ITX system runs better this way.
